Waiver Request Number WR88-007 Dear Mr. Shafer: Your request for waiver of the required 100 foot separation distance from a residential well to a septic tank and absorption field has been approved. The separation distances have been waived to 80 feet and 90 feet respectively. The request for waiver of the required 100 foot separation distance from a septic system to surface water also has been approved. This distance has been waived to 46 feet. You have verified the~ well has a static water level of 65 feet and solid casing in excess of 40 feet deep. This casing penetrating through the thick clay layer indicated on the well log from the neighboring lot should assure that surface contamination is unli~e].y to enter the well~ Because the subject lot slopes,gradually away from Sky King Road, any effluent that may daylight from the septic system would be directed awaY from the surface water flowing in the bar ditch along this road. However, if at a later date the department finds that!the septic system on the subject lot is impacting this surface water, a complete upgrade will be required. Request you issue ~he attached Health Authority Approval and grant a waiver for the horizontal separation distance between the private well and the septi~ system located on the referenced property. Also request you issue ~ waiver for the horizontal separation distance between the septic system and a surface water source also located on the referenced property. The referenced septic tank is 80 feet from the private well. An on-site septic inspection ~eport for the installation of the septic tank was not found when researching Municipal :files. The only inspection report found was for an upgrade of the leachfield done in March, 1987. However, other documents indicate that the original septic system was installed during the sumner ~f 1971. In 1971 the required horizontal separation distance between a !private well and septic tank was 50 feet. Therefore, the septic tank was installed in accordance with regulations at the time of installation so a waiver is not necessary. The referenced leachfield is 90 feet :from the private well. The leachfield was installed undem permit ~77063 and the installation was inspected and approved by a Municipal inspector in March, 1977. A risk analysis has been performed fusing the Department of Environmental Conservation's "Separation Distande Waiver Guidelines" and it appears that bacterialogical pollution from the !leachfield is unlikely. i. There is a small sprzng located near the southwest corner of the referenced lot. This spring ~s approximately 46 feet, horizontally, away from the referenced septic system. This spring was noted to be located 92 feet away from the septic system during the summer of 1984. The quantity of water produced by the spring is minimal.
