The septic system has been upgraded to a 5-bedroom system to serve the facilities. We are submitting this design and after the fact permit application for the new septic system.The attached site plan identifies the location of the home,the A.D.U.and the existing well, septic system and alternate site.No conflicts exist between this new system and any other well or septic system, whether on this lot or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot is flat. Storm water drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trench was constructed 13' from the existing trench. A waiver is required as the new trench is not more than twice the effective depth from the existing trench. Both trenches were constructed in clean gravel soil with percolation rates less than 5 minutes per inch. The existing trench remains dry after nearly 40 years of service. Effluent migration is downward with little or no horizontal movement. We request a waiver be issued allowing the new trench to remain in its current location. The new absorption trench is 15' long x 3' wide with a 12' effective depth. The total absorption area is 360 square feet which is similar to the existing trench with 460 square feet. A flow splitter valve has been installed which will disperse the flow evenly to each trench. Each trench is designed for a minimum of 375 gallons of peak flow per day. The new absorption trench was constructed 5' from the foundation of the A.D.U. The trench is 3' wide and remains in the area of influence to the foundation for only the 3' distance. The A.D.U. foundation is 28' in length and composed of reinforced concrete. The foundation is constructed atop clean well graded gravel compacted to more than 95%of maximum theoretical density. It is also secured at the north and south corners with steel reinforcement to prevent movement to the west. It is unlikely the 3' width of the absorption trench will affect the stability of the foundation. We request a waiver be issued to allow the trench to remain in its current location. The new septic system will be a minimum of 100' from all wells and surface water,and more than 5' from the septic tank. The alternate site is located more than 10' from the primary site. Please refer to the attached test hole log, plan and profile sheets for the septic design. If this design is followed,there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties.
