Septic Replacement Narrative
AK Rim Engineering File No. 1700469
This narrative addresses the proposed septic system renewal for an existing 3-bedroom single-family dwelling
on the above referenced lot. The subject property is served by a private well and an onsite septic system. An
adequacy test performed by our firm on 7/14/17 showed the septic drainfield to be in a failed condition. The
septic tank passed the adequacy test. The lot is 45,780 sf in size. A survey as-built was conducted by our firm,
showing the existing drainfield as well as the onsite well(see attached).
The property is owned by Robyn Elkins,907-244-0784. Ms. Elkins is in contact with MOA Land Use Plan
Review regarding an Access Agreement.
The design narrative is summarized as follows:
GENERAL SITE PLAN AND SEPARATIONS: All surrounding properties are served by private wells.
See the attached site plan showing proximity to surrounding properties wells. There are no surface waters
within 100' of the proposed septic system. There are no wells within 100 feet of the proposed septic system.
SOIL CONDITIONS: In 1993, when the original septic system was installed,two test holes were dug in the
proximity of the existing drainfield. The test holes were logged in the field and percolation tests conducted by
David Dayton, P.E. (see attached, Soil Logs). Both TH#1 and TH#2 were dug to 16 ft below ground surface,
and no groundwater was encountered after 12 days. Based on the datum of 100ft at top of foundation,with the
ground surface sloping slightly downward from the south to north,the elevations of the bottom of the test
holes were recorded as TH#1 77ft and TH#2 74.3ft. Based upon the percolation test results and the soil rating
listed on the MOA On-Site Sewer Permit,dated 10/21/93,we are proposing to apply a soil application rate of
0.6 gpd/ft2.
DRAINFIELD DESIGN: The proposed drainfield will be the same as the existing trench,consisting of a
deep trench type drainfield,6 ft ED x 65 ft in dimension. The total depth of the deep trench will be 9.5 ft
below grade. See attached design drawing for the drainfield specifications. The replacement trench will be
greater than 12f1 from the nearest edge of the existing trench,and at least l Oft from all lot lines. A diverter
valve will be installed where the sewerline from the septic tank connects to the existing perf pipe. In this
manner, the existing trench can be available for future use.The trench will run parallel to the lot contours.
TOPOGRAPHY: The general topography of the lot is such that it slopes gradually down toward the west and
north from the house location. There are no slopes greater than 25%for this property. Included are sheets
printed from the MOA Map Gallery"Elevations Contours and Profiles"(see attached). Various profiles were
created,measuring slopes throughout the property. No slopes greater than 25%were found in this analysis.

SETBACKS: The attached design drawing shows there will not be any encroachments into the setbacks.
REPLACEMENT DRAINFIELD SITE: The replacement drainfield site is located in the area designated in
the original submittal for the septic system for this property. The replacement trench will be greater than 12f1
edge to edge from the existing trench.
The proposed well and septic system will not adversely affect the surrounding properties.
