A permit (~ 850045) was issued for the subject property with a trench option giving a depth of
8.5'. The excavator requested that the system be as deep as possible to shorten the trench. A
design change was made to give a total trench depth of 13.0' and a gravel depth of 9.0'. This
changed the trench length to 25.0'. The soil rating of 150 eq.ft./BR was based on an overall
averaging of the five soil layers involved between 4.0' and 13.0'.
A question was raised concerning the SM soil wMch was noted on the percolation test/soil Icg. The
SM soils occurred as isolated, small, discontinuous lenses and will have little influence on the
overall permeability of the soil. When tile trench excavation was made it was discovered that the
sandy soils indicated in the test pit were isolated to a relatively small area wht;ra the test pit was
excavated. The trench wes centered over the site of the parc test and showed about 10'
(horizontally) of the sandy soils. At either end of the trench, sandy gravel soils (aW-er) were
exposed. The soil rating for these gravelly soils would be 125 sq.ft./BR. The system as installed
is over=designed and should have a long life.

Re: Test Hole and Soil Log Report for Sanitary System, Lot 7, Block E,
Knik Heights Subdivision
Dear Mr. Abbott:
We are submitting herewith the test boring results and our comments
regarding soil conditions encountered at the subject site. This
investigation was performed in accordance with your request of May 7,
1974, and those procedures outlined in a letter dated September 13,
1971 by Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough
Department of Environmental Quality.
A single test hole was put down within the Lot 7 area for the purpose
of defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sani-
tary system. Excavation was accomplished with a tractor-mounted
backhoe and the test hole was extended to a total depth of 15.0 feet
below ground surface. The final log prepared for the test hole has
been included in Drawing A-01.
Ground water was not encountered in the test hole.
We appreciate being given this opportunity to be of service to you.
Should you have any questions with regard to the above, please do not
hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours,
