The proposed systems will serve an existing four-bedroom house. Currently the lot is developed. The existing septic system was designed and installed for a four-bedroom house and is operating adequately for four bedrooms. The existing 1250 gallon septic tank has collapsed and is exposing raw sewage to the environment. The existing tank will be abandoned per code. The surrounding lots are served by private wells, and there are no wells within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank. This lot is served by a private well that is over 100 feet from the existing drain field and proposed tank. PES will verify all required separation distances at time of installation. 1. Upgrade Tank Design. a. See Sheet 1 of 1 of the plan set 2. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed system. The proposed systems will maintain at least 100 feet from all surface water and drainage ditches. 3. Hansen Construction Company 4707 Melvin Anchorage, Alaska 99503 Subject: Test Pit Inspection, Knik Heights Subdivision, Block F, Lot 2, Shelbourne Road, Anchorage, Alaska Dear Mr. Hansen: By your request, an inspection of a test pit dug by backhoe on the above named lot was conducted on June 10, 1982. The purpose of the test pit was for visual classification of soils in the area of a proposed drain field for a septic system for a new 4 bedroom house on the lot. The site is currently naturally vegetated with moss, ferns, grasses, spruce and birch trees. The lot slopes slightly to the southwest. The test pit was located approximately 70 feet north and 45 feet east of the southwest corner of the lot. Figure A-01 is a log of the center of the north wall of the test pit. In general, the soils disclosed by the test pit were complex interlayers of sands and gravels with local silt pockets. An organic mat of 0.5 feet thickness cover the ground surface at the test pit location. Underlying this, from depth 0.5 feet to 2.0 feet is red -brown silty sand with some gravel. This stratum overlies a clean, gray -brown sand with some gravel to a depth of 3.8 feet. A discontinuous pocket of light gray silt with trace sand and trace gravel occurs as the next logged unit. This silt pocket varies in thickness and elevation along the length test pit wall. The silt is underlain by a discontinuous layer of fine sand with trace of gravel, light gray -tan in color between depths of 4.5 and 5.7 feet. Between 5.7 and 10.0 feet, a gray sandy gravel stratum was found. Gravels ranged from 'a inch to 212 inch size. From 10.0 feet to the termination depth of 11.3 feet a layer of light gray brown fine sand was disclosed. No groundwater was observed in the test hole.
