On February 27, 1997, Pisauo s Dirt Works of Spinell Hdmes, Inc. installed the system in conformance with the approved plans. I I observed!the installation of the deep trench and septic tank. They construct the trench l 1.7 feet below the brigi ~al grade. At this depth tbe deep trench falls within the original design and a deeper tes! hole was not needed. At least four feet of cover was mounded over the trench. The excavator that was used to dig the trench had a four foot wide bucket and created a relatively wide dee itrench The excavator re orted that about 195 tons of sewer rock was needed to build Pi ' P the trenchi The soil conditions did uot appear to vary along the trench. Enclosed are record documents of the installation of the septic system. The septic system was installed [ising a laser level and appeared to be installed correctly. Elevations of the system were verified arid are shown on the enclosed sketches. The sewe~ line betweeu tbe dwelling and the septic tank bas not been installed. The original report dated Janumy 24, 1997, makes a statement that the lot is relatively fiat. The site plan of the lot that was submitted with the report indicates elevationSiofthe four corners of the lot. The January 24th repot~t does not make reference to the topography/of the surrounding properties, except for the old subdivision topography. [ The elevaiions shown on the plot plan do not appear to show an accurate picture of the lot. From what I carl remember of the site, the area were the southeast corner is located, has been raised in elevation [rom the road construction. The majority of Lot 8 appears to be relatively fiat. I have takgn the enclosed site plan and interpreted contours over the lot relative to the recent surveyor',~ come,' elevations. The slope of the lot were the proposed septic systems will be construct4d appears to be about 0.89%. The topography of the lot rises slightly more in the southeast ~orner. I There is n!o significant change in grade across the lot. On January 15, 1997, I inspected the topograplt~, of the site and surrounding prope]nties. Lot 7 and the parcel of land to the north of Lot 8 are i~11 consistent with the topography of Lot 8. There are no excessive slopes within 50 feet oftha proposed deep trenches. The arrangement of the deep trenches on the lot relative to the contour of the lot does not appear to be significant in this project. AK 99502 Re: Lot 8, iBlock 4, Knik View Estates; Wastewater Disposal System Design Dear On-S~ite Services Section: The owners of the above referenced parcel are proposing to develop this lot with a four (4) bM,.~nm ~in~le-familv dwellin~ Spinell Homes, Inc. is the lot owner and they have retained Alaska Riin Engineering, Inc. to request approval to constrnct a septzc system on tins tot. 1 ~e enclosed ~urveyor's plot plan shows the proposed location of the dwelling. On Jannaty 15, 1997, Pisano's Dirt Works excavated two test holes within the lot to verify subsurfae~ soil conditions. Enclosed is a location map showing their approximate locations. Test HolelNo. 1 was dug to a depth of 18 feet. See the enclosed soils log. Under the top soil layer a sai~d and gravel soil was enconntered between about two feet and five feet. This soil was visually r~ted as SW. The soil below this layer consisted of mostly a silty sand with some gravel, cobbles and boulders mixed in. This soil was visually rated as SM. A monitor tube was installed to the bottom of the test hole. A percolation test was conduc, ted o.n. tlus sod wht.ch re, ve. ale, d a perk rate~f 30 minutes per inch. This soil is acceptable for mstalhng a conventmnal stng~e- family septic system. Test Hole .2 was also dug to a depth of 18 feet. See the enclosed soils log. The top soil layer and the l~yer beneath it appeared to be the same as in Test Hole No. 1. The sand and gravel layer was a lit~te deeper, it measured abont six feet deep. At about six feet the silty sand layer was encount~'t;ed. Also at this depth the sand and gravel layer continued down to about 16 feet. The Alaska P(hn Engineering Soils Log shows a cross-section of the test hole. The interface between the two different soils appeared to be at an angle of about 45 degrees. A percolati.on ~est was conducted on the sand and gravel soil. It revealed a perk rate of 1.33 minutes per men. The sand and gravel layer that extended to a depth of 16 feet appeared to be limited to a small area. Tli~ silty sand and gravel soil appears to be the dominate soil strata of this lot. All design considerations will be taken fi'om the assumption that the soil will perk at a rate of 30 minutes pet' inch!l No wate¥ or impermeable layers were encountered in either test hole. On January 22, 1997, the monitor~ubes in each test hole were inspected to see if any water was present. Neither monitor tube sh0~ved any water. JAFI 30 1997 Municipality of Anchorage Dept. I am proposing to install a deep trench soil absorption systein with a 1250 gallon steel two-compaintment septic tank. The size ~fthe SAS was determined by referencing the Municipality of Anchorage DHHS Typical Deep Trench Requirements and Specifications, AMC 15.65. Table 1, Water Application Rates Foi, Disposal Fields, indicates that ail application rate of 0.6 GPD/SF be used to determiue the size o~'the SAS. Fora four bedroom system 1000 SF is needed. The effective depth of the deep trench will be eight feet, therefore the total length needed is 63 feet. The replacement system shbuld be the same size, 8' E.D. x 63 L.F. The encliSed septic system plot plau shows the proposed location of the septic system. The placemeut of the initial deep trench is positioned to use the available area as efficiently as possible. This dweiling will be supplied with water fi'om a public water supply system. It is assmned that the key box is located near the southeast corner oftbe lot. Tbe proposed location of the water hne is shown on the Proposed Septic System Location drawing. The water line will be installed over 10 .feet fi'om the any part of the septic system. The probable impact to adjacent properties is minimal because the subdivision in served by a public w~ter supply system. There are ilo well within 200 feet of the proposed septic system.
