Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 Reference: Lot 13, Block 3, Mountainside Village, Job No. 93406 To Whom It May Concern: Enclosed is a design for an on-site sewage disposal system on the referenced property. The drawing showing the location of the new drainfield also shows the location of the proposed well, proposed residence, septic tank and alternate drainfield. A series of test holes were dug on the site to deter~mne tim best location for the draiafield. The test holes were initially dug starting in the vicinity of the proposed building and working in a westward direction. Five test holes were dug, which demonstrated shallow bedrock. The sixth test hole, identified as test hole #6, was the first test hole which demonstrated sufficient depth for a drainfield. Test holes #7, #8 and #9 were then excavated in a northerly direction, approximately 60' apart from test bole #6. These test holes demonstrated similar characteristics to test hole #6. Test hole #10 was excavated in the vicinity of an earlier test hole, and was also found to have a suitable depth to bedrock to accommodate a drai,ffield. Test hole #10 was chosen as the location for a proposed drai~ffield, as the soils wonld accommodate a drainfield and it was more accessible than the series of holes #6 through #9. The soils in test hole #10 reflect a fractured rock layer near the surface (GP), turning to a sandy gravel (GW) and eventually sandy silt (SM), just above the bedrock. The bedrock was at a depth of 13.2' from the original ground. A percolation test was taken on sandy gravel material, Mth a determined percolation rate of 6.7 minutes per inch. We then designed a wide trench system, utilizing the sandy gravel layer and the gravel layer above. The system was designed for a four bedroom residence and required 750 square feet absorption area. A 5' wide by 4' deep trench was utilized in the design, requiring 75 linear feet of trench. We designed the system with two trenches 10' apart, each being 40' in length, for a total length of 80 linear feet. If differing soils conditions are encountered during the excavation of this drailffield, modifications will be made in the field to accommodate the new soil conditions. An alternate drainfield site was designated in the vicinity of test hole #6. The soils in test hole #6 show a variety of gravels (GM, GW), extending fi'om 2.7' below original ground to 9.4' below original ground. Again, a percolation test indicated a percolation rate of 7.3 minutes per iuch. This alternate site is suitable for a drainfield, should one become necessmy. Municipality of Anchorage May 6, 1994, Page 2 In general, the site slopes to the west at a severe slope with a bench running in a north-sonth directiou, approximately 250' west of the east property line. A secondary bench, approximately 130' west of the east property line. A secondary bench, approximately 130' west of the east property line is also present in the southern portion of the lot. These benches were selected for the primary and alternate locations of the drainfield, because of the more desirable slopes in these locations. We anticipate some modification to the design may be necessary as the field is constructed, aud therefore anticipate closely monitoring this construction. This site is a difficult site because of the steep side slopes and shallow bedrock; however, we do feel there are stflT~cient soils to accommodate the design systems. It is our professional opinion that the designated locations are the most desirable on this site for waste disposal system. We are also of the opinion the soils will properly accmmnodate the systems and will not present a health and safety hazard to other nearby neighbors or to the general public as a whole.
