PH: (907) 345-1355 December 30, 1991 ANCHORAGE, ALASKA 99516 M.O.A. DHHS P.O. Box 19~6650 Anchorage, AK 99519 Dear Sirs: The purpose of this letter is to provide the requh'ed design narrative in support of our application for a permit to construct wastewater disposal facilities on Lot 2, Block 6, Mountainside Village S/D, located on Big Mountain Drive. Soils logs, perc test results, a site plan, design drawings and specifications are enclosed for your review. Although the site plan designates a location for a well, we are not applying for a well permit at this time, because the property is just in the process of being marketed. The purpose of this submittal is to obtain DHHS review and concept approval of the proposed septic system - actual construction quite possibly will not take place within the initial per,nit period. The proposed system will be constructed between test hole #5 and #7 . As can be seen fi'om the soil logs, the native material between 2' and 4.5' deep in this area is a slightly silty sandy gravel with a measured percolation rate of 1.7 minntes per inch. Bedrock was encountered at 6' below ground level in both test holes, and for design purposes a 6' bedrock depth is assumed to be applicable for the entire area encompassed by the proposed drainfields. Tile proposed system was designed using the soil application ¢--~-~f 170-~d'-/s~.-j4. specified in the wastewater ordinance fol' filter sand which will be used to achieve ~%+ s~-pm'afion between the bottom of the sewer gravel and bedu'ock. A fora' bedroom residence requires a total absorption area of (4 x 150)/1.0 = 600 square feet. The proposed design of two 5' wide drainfields having a total length of 120 feet has a total absorption area of 600 square feet. The unequal length configuration of tile design was chosen to allow futm'e installation of similarly configm'ed replacement drainfields utilizing a total of only 3 pm'allel alignments. The topography of the lot in the vicinity of the proposed drainfields slopes to the northwest at approximately 25%, with steeper slopes above. The lower edge of the ~ower replacement dramfield wall -7*be approximately 30 feet uphill fi'om the top of a 10 foot high cutbanl~ ~.~[{'l{;a~h~-l~t-'bgk Because of the good permeability characteristics of the native soils overlyin~-~h'e-~Sr~kYw-~-bT~ie~e this configm'ation will not pose a threat of effluent daylighting in the cutbank below. By the time the effluent has traveled 30 feet horizontally it will have ample opportunity to filter into cracks ill the bedrock, as is evidenced by the fact that the roadside ditch below the cutback shows no evidence of being subjected to surface flow. The design concept is quite similar to that recently utilized in the soil absorption system recently constructed on the adjacent Lot 1, Block 6, located just to the south of the subject property. To ensm'e even distribution of effluent to the two drainfields, an "Orenco" lift station w!th pressurized distribution pipes will be installed. To match the 30 gpm pump output with an average 5 residual head and flow 0.5 gpm, a total of 60 holes are to be ch'illed on 2' centers. Since the two drainfields have an elevation differential of 4', the design calls roi' 1/8" diameter holes in the lower drainfield and 5/32" diameter holes in the upper. The proposed project will have no impact on present or future water supply and wastewater disposal systems serving adjacent properties, nor will it have any impact on reserved space/surface and subsm'face, or on drainage. Please give me a call at 345-1355 if you have any questions on this submittal. Sincerely, Ted Moore, P.E. LOT TA~K W', L~FI' 5TA,. PROPOS~b '~:0' J~Nb HO~ ,PROP.
