Ref: Proposed Septic System Upgrade for Homestead Hills; Block 2, Lot 2
To whom it may concern:
The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a community well and septic system. The drainfield
is in a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. We are proposing to install a new dual trench
type drainfield and 1000 gallon steel septic tank. One testhole was excavated on the property
and the drainfield is designed within its 30 foot radius. Comments regarding the design are
summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached 2017 logs which show the soil classifications, groundwater
monitoring, and the percolation test results.
2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications.
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached design drawing, the average topography
around the proposed drainfield is 10%.
5. WAIVERS: We are requesting that your department issue a variance from the required
separation distance of 10 feet from drainfield to lot line down to 1 foot. Per MOA records, the
existing drainfield on Homestead Hills; Block 2, Lot 1 is located in the northwest portion of the
lot. In short, it is greater than 14' from the proposed drainfield. Additionally, the existing seepage
pit location as shown on the design drawing is approximate. Efforts will be made to maximize
the distance from the proposed drainfield to the existing seepage pit.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

RE: Test Hole and Soil Log Report for Sanitary System
Lot 2, Block 2, Homestead Hills Subdivision
Dear Mr. · Nix:
We are submitting herewith the test boring results and our comments re-
garding soll conditions encountered at the subject site. This investigation
was performed in accordance with your request of June 14, 1972, and those
procedures oul;lined in a letter dated September 13, 1971by Mr. Rolt~ Strick-
land of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department of Environmental
Quality.
A single test hole was put down within the Lot 2 area for the purpose of
defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary system.
Excavation was accomplished with a tractor-mounted backhoe and the test
hole was extended to a total depth of 14 feet; below ground surface. One sam-
ple was recovered from the bottom of the test hole and retained for grain size
analysis. The sample will be held in storage, up to approximately one month,
for possible testing before it is discarded. The final log prepared for the test
hole has been included in Drawing A-01.
Ground water was not encountered in the test hole.

An adequacy test be performed on the existing leaching
area. This test will determine if the system is adequate
according to National Standards. A listing of private
firms performing the test is enclosed. This report
needs to be submitted to this department for our
review.
