The septic system is in a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. Two testholes were excavated on the property and logged by GEG, Ltd. We are proposing to excavate the existing trench to remove all contaminated material and use it as a portion of the drainfield upgrade. The septic system will be designed within the 30 foot radius of these testholes. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached are two logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. NOTE: Two percolation tests were performed in the same bench of testhole #1. For the reserve site, the application rate is based upon the average of the two percolation rates. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, the topography in the area is 5-10% running from southeast to northwest. In short, there are no slope concerns. 5. LOT LINE WAIVER: Due to site constraints, we are requesting a 5 foot lot line waiver to the northeast lot line. The adjacent drainfield is over 10 feet from the proposed location of the subject drainfield. The existing drainfield is currently 5 feet from the lot line. 6. WELL TO TANK/RESERVE SITE WAIVER: We are requesting a waiver from the well to the proposed tank and reserve site. The current tank is only 81 feet from the existing well. Due to site constraints, we request that you waive the distance from the well to the proposed tank to 85 feet and the distance from the well to the reserve site to 95 feet. The following items are justification for this waiver: • The tank will be downhill from the well. If effluent were to daylight, it would not flow toward the well head. • The house is in between the tank and the well. NEW DRAINFIELD TO RESERVE SITE WAIVER: We request your department issue a 10 foot waiver from the new drainfield to the proposed reserve site. The reserve site is proposed to have 7 feet of effective requiring a 14 foot (twice the effective depth) separation to any other drainfield, however, due to site constraints, the drainfields require a separation distance of 10 feet. In short, we are requesting a 10 foot waiver between drainfields. The following items are justifications for this waiver: • The reserve drainfield (if installed) will require the addition of a CAT III nitrogen removal system. • The two drainfields will not be used simultaneously. Based upon the aforementioned facts, I believe there is minimal risk associated in granting this waiver. D.N.Bolles, On-site On 9/27/88 it was observed that a septic system upgrade was being performed on the subject lot. Upon investigation it was determined that no permit had been issued for the upgrade. On 9/30/88 a site visit revealed the residence had been vacated. On 10/4/88 1 called Mr. Thom Fischer about a Iq_AA issued on 9/29/88 by Dan Roth. Mr. Fischer said he discussed the problem with Mr. Roth and that only the piping needed replacing since it was plugged. Mr. Roth said no permit was needed and to proceed with the repair. The field dementions, therefore, have not changed and the system should perform adequately.
