Septic system design Dear On-Site Services Engineer: The owner of the above lot has a septic system that is nearing its end of useful life. We are submitting this permit application for the construction of a new septic system. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home as well as the existing and proposed septic locations. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system, whether on this lot or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot slopes down toward the north of the lot at grades around 30-40%, but near the proposed septic system location slopes are mild. The steeper slopes, greater than 25%, start more than 50 feet downslope from the trench, and the design also meets the criteria for trenches built on steep slopes. Contours are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. Stormwater drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trench will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new system will be a minimum of 100’ from all wells and surface water, and more than 5’ away from the septic tank. The proposed trench is located more than 14’ away from the existing trench. Please refer to the attached test hole logs, plan and profile pages for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties. Box 3-3772 ECB Anchorage, AK 99501 Subject: Subsurface Investigation for Feasibility for On-Site Sewage Disposal Systems I,ots 1~, ~2 and 16, Block 2, Silvercrest Subdivision and Lot ~, Block 1, SST Subdivision Dear Hr. Stephens: As requested we performed a subsurface investigation on the four above referenced lots to determine their suitability for placement for on-site sewage disposal systems. Thr~ee test ho]es were placed on April 12 and 13, 1978. The holes were drilled by Denali Drilling, Inc. The test hole's were logged and the drilling supervised by Mr. O.M. Hatch, senior technician/geologist with Alaska Testlab. ~ ~ holes are located <)n the adjacent figures !tl and ~;2. The test ho]_e logs are included as Table A. It may prove helpful in :i_nterpreting the data on the test holes logs to review the standard explanatory informa{ion contained on Sheets 1-3. Once the test holes were drilled, they were cased with s~otted p].astic pipe. About a week later the test holes were checked for ground water intrusion into the h6les. None had occurred. All three of the test holes were dry. 'Pl'~en on April. 25, 1978, the -test holes were filled with water and left over night to saturat6d, A percolation test was then performed the next. day, April 26, 1978, by refilling -the holes and monitoring the rate at which the water fell. in the holes at 10 minute interva].s fo].- a period of one hour. The perco].ation rates based on this testing are as follows: Lots 11 and 12, Block 2, Silvercrest --- 10 minutes/inch. Lot 16, Block 2, Si].vercrcst Su};division -.- 5.7 minutes/inch. Lot 1, Block 1, SST Stlbdivision -- 2 minutes/inch. Mr. Mike Stephen April 28, 1978 Page 2 We would caution the use of a percolation rate as fast as 2 minutes/inch in Lot 1, Block 1, SST Subdivision. It is our experience that due to the clogging action of sewage effluent that a more conservative design value be used in silty sands and silts. They that have a tendency to clog. We would reco~mnend a design value of 5 minutes/inch. We hope this is sufficient for your present needs. If we can be of further service or offer any clarification of any data presented here, please do not hesitate to contact us. Very sincerely, ALASKA TESTLAB Melvin R. Nichols, P.E. TEST RESULT: THIS SYSTEM MEETS THE CODE REQUIREMENTS OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF ANCHORAGE. The operational life of all septic systems depends on the local soil conditions, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system. These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of this septic system. We can therefore not give any estimate of how long the system will continue to meet the operational requi- rements of the Municipality and State. May 5, 1983 Antoinette Graham 6945 Candace Drive Anchorage, Alaska 99507 Dear Mrs. Graham: On May 4, 1983 a well flow test was accomplished with a adequacy test at Silvercrest Subdivision Lot 11 Block 2. The well flow test started at 9:32 with static water level at 93' and was run until 10:25. This was a total of 53 minutes at which time the well stopped pumping. In this time the static level of water in the casing had dropped from 93 feet to 289 feet which is the shut off point for the pump. There was a total of 279 gallons of water used in this time. Static water level rise was recorded, the recovery rate indicates that the well recovered at 32 gallons per hour the first hour and decrease with time. It is estimated that if would take 10 hours for the well to recover back to its original level. A conservative estimate is that this well could produce 700 gallons per day. However sustain water use as lawn watering, or several faucets being used at the same time could draw the well do~ sooner that 50 minutes. Normal water usage for a 3 bedroom house is 450 gallons per day with a peak useage of 625 gallons per day. These figures are just below the 700 gallon per day we have estimated to be the output of the well. Note this well is marginal to satisfactory. However, with normal water useage and not overloading the system the well should be sufficient for a 3 bedroom house.
