Health & Human Servioe8 Subject: Sue Tawn #2 Block 1, Lot 17 - Excess Fill Over Tank Permit #SW970056/PID 051 150 138 Gentlemen: Per our discussion the inspection report that was submitted on April 23, 1997, showed there is approximately 7.5 feet of gravel over the tank. As these tanks are typically designed for 6' feet, this discrepancy was flagged by your department. While there is additional fill on top of the tank this was necessitated to eliminate ponding over the tank pending final grading. A building has not been constructed on the lot and the final grading is pending completion of the structure. The owner has just recently begun construction of the foundation and we anticipate that final grading will occur prior to next year. In addition to the above, I feel the additional fill does not pose a threat to the integrity of the tank due to the type of fill material used, the density of that material, and the factor of safety employed in the construction of the tanks. Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Subject: Sue Tawn #2 Block 1, Lot 17 - Septic Permit Gentlemen: Following a request from the owner regarding the proposed development of the referenced property, we dug an additional testhole for the proposed system and replacement field. The results of this test are attached. Water monitoring was conducted in conjunction with the previous permit and the soils tests are in the same proximity. The lot will be served by well which has been constructed under a separate permit #SW950218. The system will be placed on the south eastern portion of the lot. As indicated on the site plan there is sufficient grade to maintain a gravity system. A 1000 gallon tank will be installed in anticipation of a 3 bedroom house being constructed. There is also sufficient area and grade to maintain a replacement gravity fed field. As indicated by the site plan drainage arrows, natural drainage is away from this site and will be maintained after construction. There is no surface water within 100' of the proposed installation. There are no known curtain drains within 50' of the proposed installation. No wells exist within 100' of the proposed installation. Due to the steep slopes adjacent to this property and the porous soils we are requesting a wavier to 35' for slopes in excess of 25%. Additional re-grading of the site is anticipated which will insure a minimum separation to slope of 35'. Development of this lot should have no adverse effect on development of adjacent lots. No onsite system presently exists (new residence). The existing systems on surrounding lots appear to be performing adequately. The percolation rate was found to be 1.4 min/inch. No impacts to the surrounding properties are foreseen. The topography of the area is a westerly slope of about 6% with a slope break occurring approximately 120' from the eastern edge of the lot. After the slope break the slope is westerly at approximately 30%. The lot footprint is about 240' by 343' for an area of 71,862 square feet.
