I have reviewed the submitted information, this office's file on Summit Estates, and pertinent design and wastewater treatment criteria. Based on this review, I have the following comments. Based on the intended use of the facility and your assumption of the subsurface soil conditions, as detailed in the submitted data, it appears that a conventional wastewater disposal system would degrade the aquifer that is currently being used as a source for several private and public water systems. The degradation could result in contamination above the maximum contaminant concentration levels for the parameters noted in the State Drinking Water Regulations. Thus, the rationale for the use of the proposed holding tank is accepted by this Department. Therefore, subject to the following requirements, the construction plans are approved for the concerns of this Department, in accordance with the provisions of 18 AAC 72, Wastewater Disposal Regulations. The installation of the holding tank will be monitored by a Professional Engineer (P.E.). Complete as-built drawings of the hold tank will need to be submitted to this office under the stamp of a P.E. The submitted as-built drawings will need to verify the depth of burial and the location of the high-level alarm. Mark Pearson 2 April 2, 1992 3. The attached forms will need to be completed and returned with the as-built drawings. 4. Calculations that were used to size the holding tank will need to be submitted to this office under the stamp of a P.E. 5. Specifications on the high-level alarm system will need to be submitted to this office. 6. A copy of your February 23, 1992 letter will need to be submitted to this office under your stamp as a P.E. This approval does not imply the granting of additional authorizations, nor obligate any state, federal, or local regulatory body to grant required authorizations. The house on the property is a five bedroom two story single family dwelling. The well is in the front of property and the septic tank and seepage pit are on the back of the lot. There is more than a 100 foot separation between the well and the pit. The well casing is approximately thirteen inches above the surface~ The well seal appears to.be tight and functional. A water sample taken by the Municipality of Anchorage Health Inspector on August 9~ 1982~ is found to be acceptable. A copy of those results is enclosed with this report. The pit was pvmped on August 17~ 1982. On August 18~ 1982 at 10:20 AM~ clear water was run into the pit at the rate of 7.5 g.p.m.~ the maximum flow that would come through the garden hose. This rate was continued untO! the maximum da~ly rate had been pumped into the pit. The ~ater level in the pit was measured from the top of the cleanout pipe. The depth to water level prior to starting was 8.5 feet. Eight hundred §allons of water were pumped ~nto the pit. At the end of the first day of pumping~ the water had risen .55 feet. Twenty-four hours later~ the water level was at 8.45 feet from the top of the stand pipe. Om August 19~ 1982 starting at 1:05 PM another 800 gallons was once again pumped into the pit with the depth monitored at 50 gallon intervals. At the end of this pumping~ the water level was at a depth of 7.55 feet from the top of the stand pipe. On August 20, 1982 at 4:00 PM~ the pit was again measured~ the depth to the water level was at 8.45 feet from the top of the stand pipe. This is within .05 feet of the original water level. In concluslon~ this pit satisfies the requirements of the Munclpallty of Anchorage's adequacy testing procedures. If you have any questions~ please call my office.
