Engineer's Comments: In conducting this evaluation, GEG, Ltd. attempted to provide a thorough, conscientious engineering analysis of the system in accordance with ADEC and MOA DSD Guidelines 8 Regulations. The reported results described the performance ofthe system under the conditions encountered at the time of the test, and separation distances measured to readily identifiable features. The operational life of all wells and septic systems depend on the local soils condition, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system. These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of the system. Satisfactory test results do not guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that there are no hidden defects or encroachments. GEG, Ltd. can therefore not provide any warranty or future estimate of how long the system will continue to meet the operational requirements of the ADEC or MOA DSD. IIA050164 Septic Tank Data The septic tank is 1250 gallons and was installed 9/9/1975. The septic tank has had a 90 foot encroachment for over 20 years. For the purposes of waiver guideline points the total depth of the tank was calculated as 13 feet, which is actually the depth of the seepage pit. The 13 foot depth is used because this would be a worst case senario. Well Data There was no well log found by Garness Engineering. However, five well logs were submitted for surounding lots. The depths of the wells range from 90 feet to 225 feet deep. The well logs in the surrounding lot show a confined auquifer below a clay layer and with a bouyant static water level as evidence of a confined auquifer layer. For the purposes of calculating the waiver giudeline points, the well log for lot 6 was used for the total depth of the well at 225 feet deep State of Alaska: Separation Distance Waiver Guidelines for S.C.R.O. Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Well Waiver Request for Skyline View Subdivision; Lot 5, Block 1, A IIAA was submitted to your department on 4/25/2005. Upon further investigation it was noted that there was an encroachment from the well to the septic tank. We field verified this encroachment with a topcon total station, and measured the distance to be 93.0 feet. We are requesting a 90 feet waiver from the well to the septic tank on the reference property. The following items are justification for the waivers: • The septic tank is downhill from the well head. If the septic system was to overflow, it would not travel toward the well head. • The location of the septic system is in a very visible area so that if any effluent was to surface, it would be noticed and the problem corrected. • The house on the property is in direct path of the well and septic tank. The other path of contamination is subsurface migration wastewater should the tank begin to leak. A well log was not able to be located for the referenced property. As can be seen on the attached well logs for the surrounding properties, the aquifer ranges from 76-212 feet. The underlying soils consists of sand and gravel to approximately 75 feet and layers of sand, gravel and clay to approximately 188 feet. These underlying soils have served to inhibit the migration of untreated wastewater into the aquifer. Recent water sample results indicated nitrate levels to be 3.84 and coliform bacteria results to be 0. The seepage pit was charged with 1.000 gallons of fresh waiver and after a per.i.od of 2.4 hours all the water which had been added to the crib had percolated out. Tt can be concluded from this test that the waste water disposal system serving the four bedroom duplex located on this property is currently functioning adequately.
