Septic System Permit
The septic system for Paine L2 was originally designed and permitted in September 2020. The
permit has now expired. We have recently made a site visit to see what has changed on this and
neighboring properties. No new development has been completed on this or surrounding lots since
the original permit was issued. Conditions in the area remain the same as described in the original
design and permit application. We therefore recommend the permit be extended for another year.

Septic System Owner -installer Agreement
The On -site Water and Wastewater Section (On -site) may issue an approval for a homeowner
to perform work on an on -site wastewater disposal system to serve that individual's owner -
occupied, single-family or duplex home if the homeowner meets and agrees to the following
requirements:
1. The property owner and excavation equipment operator may perform work on no more
than one owner -installation project in a 12-month period.
2. Owner's projected acti>6e involvqment with the installation:

Septic system design
Dear On-Site Services Engineer:
The owner of the above lot intends to upgrade a 4-bedroom home on the property. The property
has had an approved permit renewed for several years now; we would like to renew the permit
with a change order. The desired locations for the well and septic system upgrades have changed.
The existing well on the lot will be decommissioned in accordance with MOA Code and a new
well drilled. The septic system which was constructed on the lot in 1981 will also be
decommissioned. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home and the existing well
and septic system. The proposed well and septic location and alternate site are also shown. No
conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system, whether on this
lot or adjacent lots.
The ground surface on the lot originally sloped moderately to the north at grades from 20% to 30%
with slopes greater than 25% within 50’ downslope. However, those slopes are less than 10’ high
before leveling out slightly. The absorption trenches have been designed to meet the steep slope
provisions of the Municipal Code. Field inspections have verified that no slopes greater than 46%
are found within 100’ of the proposed septic system. Ground surface contours taken prior to the
excavation work are shown on the site plan indicating the grade and direction of flow. Storm water
drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trenches will be constructed parallel to the
slope as much as possible.
Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new system will be a minimum of 100’ from all
wells and surface water, and more than 5’ away from the septic tank. The alternate site is a
Category III Treatment System and is located near the test hole more than 50’ from the existing
well. Please refer to the attached test hole logs and plan and profile sheets for the septic design. If
this design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties.

has taken place on the lot and the area for the new septic system is now virtually flat. The test hole
was placed after grading had occurred and is representative of current subsurface conditions. It
does not cover the entire absorption system with its 30' radius. A new test hole will be completed
prior to construction to verify the lack of bedrock or impermeable soil layers and to confirm design
parameters. The alternate site which is a Category III Treatment System is placed near the test
hole and more than 50' from the existing well.
Ground surface contours taken prior to the excavation work are shown on the site plan indicating
the grade and direction of flow. Storm water drainage will not impact this septic system. The new
trenches will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible.

Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new system will be a minimum of 100' from all
wells and surface water, and more than 5' away from the septic tank. The alternate site is located
more than 14' away.
Please refer to the attached test hole logs and plan and profile sheets for the septic design. If this
design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties.

depth of a trench or pit is the distance between the surface of the ground and
the bottom of the excavation(in feet). There is no set width for trenches.
The gravel depth is the minimum depth of gravel between the outfall pipe and
the bottom of the excavation(in feet).

installation inspections of any wells adjacent to this property and the number
of residences that the well will serve.

Backfilling of any system without final inspection and approval by this department
will be subject to prosecution.
Minimum distance between a well and any on-site sewage disposal system is 100 feet
for a private well or 150 to 200 feet from a public well depending upon the type
of public well. Minimum distance from a private well to a private sewer line
is 25 feet and to a community sewer line is 75 feet. Well logs are required
and must be returned to this department within 30 days of the well completion.
Other requirements may apply. Specifications and construction diagrams are
available to insure proper installation.
