b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing

1. A bedrock depth confirmation testhole to be done at the west side of the proposed fields prior to construction.
2. An additional percolation test to be done at the west side of the proposed fields prior to construction.

Septic Installation Proposal Narrative
ARE Project No. 1700183
The subject property is currently undeveloped. The owner is proposing to construct a 3-bedroom
single family home on the property, served by a private well and a conventional septic system.
The design narrative is summarized as follows:
GENERAL SITE PLAN AND SEPARATIONS: All surrounding properties are served by
private wells and septic systems. See the attached site plan showing proximity to surrounding
properties wells and septic systems. There are no surface waters within 100 ft of the proposed
septic system. The proposed well site is over 100 ft from any adjacent septic system or other
potential sources of contamination.
SOIL CONDITIONS: On 6/9/2015, a testhole was excavated by South Fork Construction and
logged by Alaska Rim Engineering. No groundwater was encountered in this testhole but
bedrock was encountered at 12 ft below ground surface. The soils in the proximity of this
testhole perked faster than 1 minute per inch. Sieve analysis (attached) was performed on a soil
sample from this site. The results indicate the soils consist of a silty sand with gravel (SM). No
sand filter will be required if a septic system is constructed near this site.
However, the monitoring pipe for the 3/10/1982 Russ Oyster, P.E. testhole was located and
found to be viable. In this testhole, there was no groundwater encountered on 6/9/2015. A perk
bench was excavated near this testhole and a perk test was performed on 6/19/2015. Based upon
the perk test results, the primary drainfields will be constructed within the 30 ft radius of the
1982 testhole.
On 4/11/17, Alaska Rim Engineering performed a site visit to recheck both of the testhole
locations monitoring tubes for ground water. Both monitoring tubes were found to be in good
condition and neither had any signs of groundwater.
DRAINFIELD DESIGN: The proposed drain fields will consist of two 5-wide drain fields, 38
feet long with 0.5 feet effective depth.

Septic Design Proposal Narrative.
TOPOGRAPHY: The general topography of the lot is excessively steep (over 100% in many
places) running south to north. The slopes in the area of the proposed drain field are 30-35%.
We request that you waive the distance from the drain field to excessive slopes to 0 feet. The
proposed drainfield meets the proposed Code regarding Steep Slope disposal fields, Item 4(a),
which allows installation of septic disposal fields in slopes between 25%and 46%. There are no
slopes greater than 46% within 100 ft downslope of the proposed drainfields.
In short, the proposed well and septic system will not adversely affect the surrounding properties.
