Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 Attn: Dan Roth Reference: Lot 12; Block 1; Little Bear Subdivision 6611 Baby Bear Drive Anchorage This is to request a separation distance waiver bet~veen the prixTate well located on the above referenced property and: the sewer main located along the west property line at 21 feet, the sewer main located along the north property line at 32 feet, and the sewer man hole located at the northwest corner of the subject property at 48 feet. The sewer lines were constructed in 1976 with the well drilling taking place in 1977. At that time the separation distances between these items was required to be 50 feet. The surface topography of the site is favorable in that the ground does not slope towards the well relative to the sewer lines. The well has a total cased depth of 84 feet and draws from a sand and gravel aquifer, which is over lain by a layer of clay at a depth of 9 to 17 feet. Additional hard pan exists from 23 feet to 82 feet. This aquifer is confined under a pressure head, as the well water has a static level of 10 feet at the present time and 23 feet when the well was drilled. The sand and gravel that exists over the clay layers would tend to treat any leaking effluent, while the clay and hard pan layers would tend to confine any leaking sewage and prevent it from reaching the aquifer in use. Based on well logs in the area (attached), it appears the water table slopes to the north at a slope of 1-2%. From this data, any leaking effluent would tend to travel to the north xvhich is not in the direction of the subject property's well. 17034 NORTH EAGLE RIVER LOOP · SUITE 204 ° EAGLE RIVER, ALASKA 99577 Page 2 Lot 12; Block 1 Little Bear Subdivision 6611 Baby Bear Drive Anchorage February 18, 2004 The public sewer line is constructed of ductile iron, and there are no special construction notes on the sewer line as-built. The sewer line is a gravity type, which is not under pressure. There is usually more concern with infiltration of surrounding ground water rather than with discharge of sewage with a sewer of this design. On 2/17/04, a camera was run through the sewer main along the west property line at your request (results attached) and no leaks in the lines were found. Water samples xvere taken from the xvater system and nitrate levels were measured at 0.361 mg/I on 1/26/04, while there were 0 coliform bacteria and 0 other bacteria were found on 2/13/04. The line looked to be in good shape. There is a patch upstream from this property's service line but it was.repaired with a wrap around repair clamp, and exfiltration from this point would be unlikely. On the 16 inch main in the .easement, they were only able to TV 45 feet out of manhole 8 due to debris and they w.¢ren't able to jet tkis enough to get the camera past it. What they could see of this line.looked to be in good shape. If you need any more information please call me and I'll see what we can do.
