Re: Investigation of soils at above address to determine percolation rate
of soils
Dear Mr. McCoy:
At the request of Mr. Dale Fomby, EXcavating Contractor, we have investigated
soil conditions on your property in order to determine the cause of the over-
flowing sewage facilities.
On the basis of this investigation which consisted of three test borings, we
conclude that the soils in the area of the existing seepage pit consist of very
dense gravelly silts (Unified Class ML). These soils have very slow percolation
rates requiring a seepage area of 275 square feet per bedroom. A test.boring
near the southwest corner of the property revealed that the soils in that area
are sandy with much lower silt content and, therefore, have superior percolation
rates.
We recommend that the sewage disposal facilities be constructed so as to
provide 275 square feet of segpage area per bedroom if the same location is
used. If relocated to the southwest corner of the property, 250 square feet of
seepage area would be required.
Very truly yours,
ALASKA GEOLOGICAL CONSULTANTS
