Subject: Adequacy Test on Existing Sanitary Sewer System; Lot 6, Block 2,
Hideaway Hills Subdivision, Anchorage, Alaska
Dear Mr. Little:
At your request of July 13, 1978, we conducted a test of the septic system on
the above described property.
During the test the liquid level in the septic tank was monitored as water
was added to the system. The measurements are summarized in the following
table:

The meter used during the test was a Rockwell 5/8" standard water meter which
had previously been calibrated by R&M Consultants, Inc.
If the 4 bedroom residence on the property is to house 8 people, the average
load on the system can be expected to be 600 gallons per day or .41 gallons
per minute. During the test, the system accepted 150 gallons in 70 minutes.
This indicates an average effluent acceptance rate of approximately 2.]
gallons per minute at the time of the test.

The Municipality of Anchorage Development Services Department (DSD) Issues Certificates of On-Site Systems
Approval (COSA) based only upon the representations given in paragraph 4 by an independent professional civil
engineer registered in the State of Alaska. Certificates of On-Site Systems Approval are required for the transfer
of title (except between spouses) for properties served by a single-family on-site wastewater disposal and/or
water supply system. DaD also issues COSAs upon request to homeowners. Certificates of On-Site Systems
Approval are valid for 90 days from the date of issue for properties served 'by a private or Class C well and may
be reissued with new water samples. (Certificates may be reissued for a period of up to one year with valid water
samples.) Certificates are valid for one year for properties served by Class A or B wells or a public water system.
The Municipality of Anchorage is not responsible for errors or omissions in the professional engineer's work.

investigation, based on procedures outlined in the Certificate of Qn-Site Systems Approval Guidelines for this application,

Engineer's Comments:
In conducting this evaluation, GEG, LtD. attempted to provide a thorough,
conscientious engineering analysis of the system in accordance with ADEC and MOA
DSD Guidelines & Regulations. The reported results described the performance of the
system under the conditions encountered at the time of the test, and separation
distances measured to readily identifiable features. The operational life of all wells and
septic systems depend on the local soils condition, groundwater levels that may
fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system.
These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of the system. Satisfactory test
results do not guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that
there are no hidden defects or encroachments. GEG, LTD. can therefore not provide
any warranty or future estimate of how long the system will continue to meet the
OPerational requirements of the ADEC or MOA DSD. The content of this report is for
the sole benefit of the owner listed above. Any reliance upon or use of this report by any
other person or party is not authorized, nor will it confer any legal right whatsoever.

Ref: Hideaway Hills Subdivision; Block 2, Lot 6, Effective Absorption Area of Drainfield,
To whom it may concern:
DRAINFIELD SQUARE FOOTAGE: The existing 3 bedroom house is served by public water and a
septic system. The septic system consists of a 1000 gallon septic tank, a secondary 500 gallon septic tank
and a crib type drainfield. The soil rating for the drainfield is 165 square feet per bedroom. The crib has
an effective absorption area of 432 square feet. The drainfield does not currently satisfy the requirements
(495 square feet) for a 3 bedroom house; however, during the installation of the 500 gallon septic tank in
1978, a permit was approved by your department approving the septic system as a 4 bedroom system.
We are requesting that you approve the existing septic system as a 3 bedroom system in its current
condition. The following items are justification for this request:
· The system was approved as a 4 bedroom system previously by your department (10/8/1978 &
11/7/1978).
· The drainfield's absorption area is close to the amount required by the soil rating.
· The drainfield was tested as a 3 bedroom system and was found to have an adequate absorption
rate.
Based upon the aforementioned facts, we believe there is minimal risk in granting this variance.
T, OTAL DEPTH OF CRIB AND ADEQUACY TEST: The monitoring tube for the crib only extends
28 inches below the top of the crib. The crib has approximately 3.6 feet of soil cover. The total depth
and liquid level listed on the C.O.S.A. sheet were calculated based upon the top of the crib.
