Re: Adequacy Test on Existing Sanitary Sewer System; Lot 3, Block 1,
Highland Subdivision, Anchorage, Alaska
Dear Mr. Wagner:
Per your request of April 16, 1980, we conducted a test of the sanitary sewer
system on the above described property.
The septic tank was pumped prior to the performance of the test on the
seepage pit. During the test the liquid level in the seepage pit was
measured before and after the addition of 500 gallons of water. Ail liquid
levels were measured below the top of the standpipe (standpipe is 22" above
ground level), and are shown in the following table.
Initial liquid level - 91.5 inches
Level after addition of 500 gallons - 57.5 inches
Rise of water level - 34 inches
GJllons per inch - 14.71 gallons
WATER ELAPSED TOTAL

Since the sewage system is to be used for conmercial purposes, to serve a
restaurant seating 20 to 24 patrons, the decision as to the adequacy of the
system will be decided by the Municipality.
Although the absorption rate over a 24 hour period indicates a total of 669
gallons absorbed, this does not reflect the effective overall capacity of the
seepage pit. As the water level in the seepage pit drops, the total
effective area of absorption is reduced. With the seepage pit operating at a
normal level of between 7 inches to 23 inches from the top, which is part of
the design area, th_~e~absorption rate would be calculated to be 1883 gallons
in a 24 hour p_qrio_jb, ~e~_~therefore reco~m~end that the system be considered
~de~quat?~fo__r a ~oam~ealc_i3~ rat/ng_od~bout 900 _&allons per day.
