Our review of available documentation and field investigation show that this project will not adversely impact any nearby Wells, Wastewater disposal systems, replacement disposal sites, or drainage flowing onto and off of the subject property. The old system will be replaced with a new tank of MOA approved construction and a deep trench disposal field. The existing drain fields may be abandoned in place or connected to the new tank with a diverter valve at the option of the owner. The disposal field will be located horizontally a minimum of two times the depth of gravel below the distribution pipe invert from the edge of the existing drain field. The new system will meet MOA required separation distances as shown on the plans. The tank and field shall be covered with a minimum of 2" moa approved insulation and 3' of cover or a minimum of 4' of cover without insulation. The design is based on two testholes logged by ASCG in 1992. ASCG testhole 1 was to a depth of 16' below grade with a percolation rate of 5.0 minutes per inch. ASCG testhole 2 was to a depth of 4' with a percolation rate of 10 minutes per inch. The logged soils are consistent with those found at neighboring lots. We will excavate a confirmatory testhole during construction and adapt the design if variations in soil conditions are encountered. The design uses a wastewater application rate of 0.8 gpd/sgft based on the slower of the two percolation tests. There is an old seepage pit area located on the property. The exact location is unknown. Since the pit has been decommissioned since 1992, it is likely that all of the biomat has broken down and the separation distance between the gravel surrounding the concrete rings and the new trench should not negatively impact the performance of the new trench. We are requesting that the existing survey be accepted since it accurately shows all other property features including the structure and the well. The 1992 disposal fields have been field located and have been verified to match the existing inspection report drawings. If there is a conflict during construction, the location of the new field will be adjusted as required to maintain required separation distance from the existing field. The location of the existing fields will be documented on the final asbuilt survey. Upon completion of the installation, a record drawing will be submitted showing the location of the new tank, leach field, well, and other applicable features. Acceptance of the existing survey will not adversely impact public health or safety. Thank you for your time in reviewing this permit request. Dear Mr. Roth: Attached is the permit application for upgrading a septic system on the above referenced lot. Below is a narrative of probable impacts to adjacent properties. Adjacent Wells - There are no existing wells within 100 feet of the proposed new septic system. All adjacent wells have sanitary seals in place and have positive drainage away from the well head. The proposed absorption field does not adversely impact adjacent wells. Adjacent Wastewater System - The proposed trench absorption system will replace the existing trench system. The existing septic tank is also not adequate for a five bedroom house and will be replaced. Reserved Space - As the proposed system replaces an existing system, reserve space is not required, but space a possible future site is to the north of the proposed system. Drainage - 25 feet to the west of the proposed system the lot is sloped (- 15-20%) to the West away from the system. Positive drainage away from the field will be maintained. No concentrated surface water will be directed toward the field and no existing streams are within 100 feet of the proposed field. This investigation was performed ~ accordance with your request of July 23, 1973, and 'those procedures ou'hlined in a letter dated September 13, 1971 by Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department of Environmental Quality. A single test hole was put down within the Lot 1 and Lot 2 area for the purpose of defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary system. Excavation was, accomplished with an auger type drilling rig and the test hole was extended to a total depth of 25 feet below ground surface,i The final log prepared for the test hole has been included in Drawing A-01. The installed system does meet all insulation requirements per MOA specifications. The two deep trenches installed on site have 5.7 feet and 3.7 feet of native material covering the final gravel layer. The final grade over the installed septic tank is sloped towards the drainfield and is covered with two inches of insulation and 24" of native fill at its shallowest point. The insulation also extends beyond the tank to cover the transmission tube extending towards the field for -4 feet. The second concern was in regard to the depths of the testholes and their ability to detect groundwater within 6 feet of the bottom of the installed system. Soil stability problems encountered during construction required a change in the placement and absolute depth of the absorption trenches on the site. Enclosed are soils logs taken on the lot and the adjacent lot during a similar time of the year. The borings extend to a depth of 25 feet, and no water or impervious soils were encountered. These attached borings suggest that no groundwater is present within 6 feet of the bottom of the new absorption system. Based on our inspections of the installation of this septic system, it is adequately insulated and meets groundwater separation requirements.
