Dear Mr. Roth: Attached is the permit application for upgrading a septic system on the above referenced lot. Below is a narrative of probable impacts to adjacent properties. Adjacent Wells - There are no existing wells within 100 feet of the proposed new septic system. All adjacent wells have sanitary seals in place and have positive drainage away from the well head. The proposed absorption field does not adversely impact adjacent wells. Adjacent Wastewater System - The proposed trench absorption system will replace the existing trench system. The existing septic tank is also not adequate for a five bedroom house and will be replaced. Reserved Space - As the proposed system replaces an existing system, reserve space is not required, but space a possible future site is to the north of the proposed system. Drainage - 25 feet to the west of the proposed system the lot is sloped (- 15-20%) to the West away from the system. Positive drainage away from the field will be maintained. No concentrated surface water will be directed toward the field and no existing streams are within 100 feet of the proposed field. This investigation was performed ~ accordance with your request of July 23, 1973, and 'those procedures ou'hlined in a letter dated September 13, 1971 by Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department of Environmental Quality. A single test hole was put down within the Lot 1 and Lot 2 area for the purpose of defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary system. Excavation was, accomplished with an auger type drilling rig and the test hole was extended to a total depth of 25 feet below ground surface,i The final log prepared for the test hole has been included in Drawing A-01. The installed system does meet all insulation requirements per MOA specifications. The two deep trenches installed on site have 5.7 feet and 3.7 feet of native material covering the final gravel layer. The final grade over the installed septic tank is sloped towards the drainfield and is covered with two inches of insulation and 24" of native fill at its shallowest point. The insulation also extends beyond the tank to cover the transmission tube extending towards the field for -4 feet. The second concern was in regard to the depths of the testholes and their ability to detect groundwater within 6 feet of the bottom of the installed system. Soil stability problems encountered during construction required a change in the placement and absolute depth of the absorption trenches on the site. Enclosed are soils logs taken on the lot and the adjacent lot during a similar time of the year. The borings extend to a depth of 25 feet, and no water or impervious soils were encountered. These attached borings suggest that no groundwater is present within 6 feet of the bottom of the new absorption system. Based on our inspections of the installation of this septic system, it is adequately insulated and meets groundwater separation requirements.
