The length dimension is the length(in feet) of the trench or drainfield. The
depth of a trench or pit is the distance between the surface of the ground and
the bottom of the excavation(in feet). There is no set width for trenches.
The gravel depth is the minimum depth of gravel between the outfall pipe and
the bottom of the excavation(in feet).

Permit applicant has the responsibility to inform this department during the
installation inspections of any wells adjacent to this property and the number
of residences that the well will serve.
* * * TWO(2) INSPECTIONS ARE REQUIRED * * *
Backfilling'of any system without final inspection and approval by this department
will be subject to prosecution.
Minimum distanCe between a well and any on-site sewage disposal system is 100 feet
for a.private well or 150 to 200 feet from a public well depending upon the type
of public well. Minimum distance from a private well to a private sewer line
is 25 feet and to a community sewer line is 75 feet. Well logs are required
and must be returned to this department within 30 days of the well completion.
Other requirements may apply. Specifications and construction diagrams are
available to insure proper installation.

sludge. This tank must be cleaned out and possibly replaced.
Also the total depth of the standpipe is 19', so at the waters
highest level it still has 2' 9" of unused tile.

Enclosed herein are the readings and results of an adequacy test
conducted at Lot 20, Herritage Heights, Municipality of Anchorage.
Testing followed the Anchorage General Procedure Guidelines for
Adequacy Testing with two exceptions: Clear water was injected into
the system at a rate of 6 gpm rather than 10 gpm due to limitations of
the on-site water supply and a surge of water was injected and
observed on the first and third days of the testing.
Pertinent features of the testing and results are:
a. Two people occupied the house after the third day of the
testing period. The house was reported empty for several months
before the test.
b. A surge of clear water was injected into the system at the
head of the septic tank totaling 650 gallons at a rate of about 6 gpm
the first and third day.
c. During the first day with a surge of 650 gallons an increase
in water level occured of 1' 6 1/2" from the original static level.
(All measurements were taken in the drainage field stand pipe.)
d. During the second day and after an approximate 23 hour period
the level lowered to within 9" above the static level. Only one
reading was observed on the second day and no surge was injected.
e. During the third day and after an approximate 24 hour period
the level lowered an additional 3" making the level 6 1/2" above the
original static level. An additional surge of 650 gallons was
injected increasing the level 10" to a height of 1' 4 1/2" above
static level.
f. During the next 24 hours with a reported deposit from one
dishwashing, 2 showers and about 6 lavoratory uses the level dropped
1 1/4" to a height of 10 3/4" above static level.
Addressing the minimum failure criteria:
At no time did the water in the septic tank rise excessively,
overflow or was in danger of backing up into the house. In my
opinion this was due to a large elevation differential between
the septic tank outlet pipe and the static liquid level of the
drain field.
At no time during the test did the water level return to within
one inch of the static level determined by the initial reading.
In fact, with very light use of two occupants during a portion
the period the system failed to recover sufficiently over
extended periods of time. It is anticipated that with full
occupancy the system would eventually back up into the septic
tank.
