2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska
Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development
Services Department per AMC 15.65. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24/7).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
shall be either:
a. Opened and Closed on the same day, or
b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing
Special Provisions: If there is no existing foundation cleanout, one must be provided prior to the tank.

Upgrade Septic Tank Waiver Request

This is a narrative to describe the tank installation and to seek a property line waiver.The existing 37
year old steel septic tank was replaced with a plastic 1060 gallon Infiltrator.A foundation cleanout and
double cleanouts were provided during the installation.The system serves an existing three(3) bedroom
house.
1. Soils.The soil in this area is composed of a gravel,sand and silt mix.A test hole had previously
been dug to 14'and no water was found.
2. Soil Absorption System.The existing soil absorption system is a 55' long x 6'effective depth
trench. It was tested in May 2019 and received 600 gallons of water in 2.5 hours.The trench was
designed for a 4 bedroom house, but the house constructed only contains 3 bedrooms.This
trench was adequate for the 3 bedroom house and was not upgraded.When the property was
surveyed in May 2019, it was discovered that the drainfield is 7'from the property line.We are
requesting a waiver for this during the COSA process.
3. Wells.This lot and the surrounding lots are served by AWWU water.There are no wells within
200'of the proposed septic system.The tank is greater than 10' away from the public water line.
All of the houses in this neighborhood are served by water from the main line located in the
street.
4. Neighboring Wastewater systems.The septic system serving lot 8 to the west of the subject
property is 20'+from their eastern property line.The septic system serving lot 9 to the west of
the subject property is 130'+from the sump of the subject septic system. Lot 9 will have
sufficient room to construct a new field within their property without being impacted by the
existing wastewater system on lot 11.
5. Surface Water:There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank. The tank
upgrade maintains at least 100 feet from all surface water and drainage ditches.
6. Topography:The existing topography in the area of the system is flat with slopes less than 1%in
any direction within 70'of the system.
The proposed installation will not affect the future development of this or the surrounding lots.
