We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for the construction of a new septic system to accommodate the home. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of the proposed septic system along with the existing system. No existing wells are closer than 100' from the proposed system. Drainage arrows are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow on the lot. The drainage pattern will not be changed as a result of this project. The area available for a septic system on this lot is limited by the location of the existing well and Fire Lake to the south. The existing septic system must be removed in its entirely and the excavated area replaced with clean coarse sand. All contaminated material must be removed to provide room for the new system. The existing septic tank will be removed and decommissioned in accordance with Municipal Code. The existing absorption trenches are located more than 1' below the bottom of the new septic system and is a total of 6' below existing grade according to Municipal records. The new trench will be placed between the existing trenches in undisturbed ground. The test hole placed on the lot in the area of the absorption trench indicated gravel with sand and silt (GM). The percolation rate of the soil was determined to be 1.4 minutes per inch. No groundwater was found during the placement of the test hole and none was noted during the monitoring period. An application rate of 1.2 gallons per day per square foot was used in the design of the absorption system. We are proposing to place a new 1,250 -gallon STEP tank and a 53' long by 5' wide by 2' effective depth absorption trench to treat and dispose of the effluent generated in the house. The Lot 3, Block 2, Lake Ridge Terrace Subdivision August 16, 2014 Page Two elevation of the distribution line in the absorption trench will be 1' below the surface and the total depth will be 3'. A minimum of 3' of fill or 2" of insulation and 2' of fill will be placed over the absorption trenches and 4' over the STEP tank. The ground surface on the lot in the area of the absorption trench slopes to the south and west at a grade approximating 2%. The new trench will be constructed parallel with the contours of the slope as much as possible in conformance with Municipal requirements. The new septic system will be constructed a minimum of 100' from all wells and any surface water and 10' from the proposed and existing water services in the area. If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply: 1. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 2. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 3. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. 4. The only location available is near the location of the existing absorption system and within 1' of the west property line. The trench does not impact the property to the west as it is more than 100' from all wells in the area and more than 10' from all septic systems in the area. The new absorption trench is proposed for the same location as the existing failed trench in the northwest corner of the lot which is located 65' east of a section of Lower Fire Lake. A waiver is therefore necessary from the 100' setback required by ordinance. The slope of the ground surface surrounding the absorption trench is directly to the south at grades from 5% to 20%. The edge of the water in that direction is more than 100'. A 6" high berm 2' wide at the base will be placed at the western lot line to prevent any cross lot drainage and to direct effluent if the system should ever overflow to follow the natural drainage path to the south. The effluent will flow a minimum of 100' before it would encounter surface water. The soils underlying the absorption trench are very good to excellent. The likelihood of a failed septic system and overflowing effluent are very low. The existing absorption system is in failure and no surface drainage is apparent. We therefore recommend the waiver be issued allowing the proposed absorption trench to be 65' from the edge of Lower Fire Lake. Sincerely, Michael E. Anderson. OF HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SEP 15 1980 RECEIVED Dear Mr. James, Reference: Lot 3; Block 2; Lake Ridge Terrace Subdivision As you requested, a sewer system adequacy test was performed on the sewage system located on the referenced property and serving your three bedroom home. Approximately 574 gallons of water was added to the leaching field through continuous flow over a period of 24 hours. There were no adverse effects from this test. Therefore, it is concluded that the leaching system is currently providing adequate percolation. The septic tank was pumped and verified to have a capacity of approximately 1250 gallons.
