The absorbtion field is 80 feet from the well on -lot. The bottom of the septic absorbtion field is ten feet deep from the ground surface. The water table gradient was determined by North Rim Engineering to be about 10% sloping away from well toward the septic absorbtion field. Well Data There was not a well log found for Lakeridge Terrace BI2 Lt 17. However the engineer did obtain other well logs in the area to determine a soil strata for the subject well. The subect well depth is approximately 157 deep. The two wells provided are at different depths. The well log for lot 14 was used for worst case scenerio at total depth of 87 feet to calculate D.E.C. points. The encroachment of 80 feet from well on -lot to septic field on -lot has existed for over 30 years and the current water sample results show nitrates to be with -in municipal standards. We were under the impression that the former system was approved by the MOA. We have completed a waiver request for the system. The septic system was installed in 1970 R the absorption bed is 80 feet from the private water well. A strong argument in favor of granting the waiver request is the high water quality of the referenced well. No bacteria, and low nitrate. If the septic system was adversely impacting the well the past 22 years, elevated levels of nitrate would most likely be encountered. The neighbor wells have been granted past waiver approvals for similar conditions. The performance of the referenced septic system during the adequacy test was good. The absorption bed had no standing wastewater present during inspection. We feel that this system deserves a waiver approval. Sine Steve Eng, PE, PH Enclosure: Waiver Data $/I'so q/z2/6 86538 WELL WAIVER REQUEST/Lakeridge Terrace, Block 2, Lot 17 A waiver is being requested for the existing private water well on Lakeridge Terrace Subdivision, Block 2, Lot 17. The 80' separation request is to the existing leach field. The Inspection Report from the MOA files details the construction specifications. The septic tank is a distance of 65', but met separation requirements at the time of construction. The water well and septic system were recently inspected and tested for adequacy. The septic system performed very well & had no standing wastewater in the monitor tube. The water well was recently sampled for bacteria, nitrates, & arsenic. The water samples were satisfactory and do not indicate any contamination present. The existing well has not been impacted for the past 36 years and can be expected to continue yielding clean water. The as -built property drawing, adequacy test measurements, and water sample results have previously been submitted to your office. Well waiver approvals have been granted to neighboring properties with similar site conditions. A waiver was granted for the neighboring lots 22 & 23. A well log was not located for the property but nearby well logs are available. The Inspection Report reports the Lot 17 water well @ 157' depth. The well on lot 14 reports hardpan & gray clay between the water bearing formation. Lot 22 reports silt & hardpan layers also. On lot 23, the well log by Sullivan Water Wells encountered water at 105 foot depth. The well was cased through almost 100 feet of different bedrock formations. The surface layer from 4 to 12 feet deep was identified as clayey gravel, which may provide a shallow resistance layer to contaminants. Well logs did not print clearly but are available on-line in the MOA project files. The "Separation Distance Waiver Guidelines" from the state of Alaska will be used as a tool to determine contamination: 1. Water Table: The Inspection Report gives a depth of 157' for the water well. Water was evidently encountered near this depth. The lot 23 Sullivan Drilling Log encountered water @ 98' depth & lot 22 encountered the aquifer near this 100' depth. No water table was encountered according to the drilling logs prior to this level. The static water table is considerably higher, but the water evidently yields from near the lower levels. This yields a point value of 7. 2. Soil Sorbtion: The well logs indicates clay/gravel, silt, hardpan, and varying types of bedrock. The bedrock is both hard and broken. A point figure for broken bedrock will be used: 55' of clay, hardpan, silt & rock (55/157) 4.0 102' of bedrock or broken bedrock (102/157)1.0 Total = 1.4 + 0.65 = 2.05 WELL WAIVER REQUEST/Lakeridge Terrace, Block 2, Lot 17 3. Permeability: There are several soil types, rocky clay, hardpan & rock/fractured rock. (55/157)3 + (102/157)0.9 = 1.6 4. Water Table Gradient: The localized water table gradient generally slopes toward Fire Lake. The local land and water table slope at 10% toward the lake. This gradient is favorable for this well because the septic tank is on the lake side of the well. The well yield is high enough not to produce an adverse water table gradient and the static water level is near the surface. The difference between static water level & lake level are over 10%. A water slope + 10% value will be given for 6.0. S. Horizontal Separation: The 80 foot horizontal separation will yield a 2.2 point total. All points add to 18.8. This point total suggests "Almost sure to be free from any form of contamination from household sewage". This would suggest that no contamination has taken place in the past, and likely will not occur.
