RECEIVED Mr. Ron Litalien Star Route A Box 1538X Anchorage, Alaska 99507 RE: Percolation Test On Existing Disposal System; Lot 10, Blk 4, Brookwood Subdivision Dear Mr. Litalien: On September 2, 1976, at the request of Mr. Dale Hopkins of Dynamic Realty, our office conducted a percolation test on the septic system located on the above described lot. The following table represents the level of the liquid in the septic tank. The depth of the tank was 9.6 feet below the top of the vent. The depth of liquid in the tank was initially 4.4 feet above the bottom of the tank and 5.2 feet below the top of the stand pipe. The tank had not been pumped prior to the test and was, therefore, assumed to be at the outlet level. For the test, the liquid level was measured from the top of the stand pipe. Summary of Measurements Level of Liquid M~ter Reading Time In Septic Tank in Gallons Remarks 11:40 5:16 0 (initial) 1:13 5:02 50 3:21 4:00 155 4:30 5:01 155 (final) Fill Storage Start Test 105 gallons 105 gal/197 min = 0.53 gpm, End Test The meter used during the test was a Neptune 5/8" standard water meter which was borrowed from the Anchorage Water Utility. The meter had previously been calibrated and approved for' installation by the utility company. Since the house on the lot concerned was occupied, it can be assumed that the leachfield in question was at its normal degree of saturation. To further insure normal saturation and to fill any possible storage in the system, 50 gallons of water were added to the septic tank before beginning the percolate, on test. ANCHORAGE FAIRBANKS JUNI~AU Mr. ROn Litalien September 8, 1976 - Page 2 - If it is assumed that the existing three bedroom residence will house six people, the average daily load on the disposal system can be expected to be 450 gallons per day, or 0.31 gpm. Since the existing disposal system accepted 105 gallons in 3.25 hours or 0.5 gpm, I would conclude that the leach field is presently performing in an acceptable manner for a private residence. It should be noted, however, that during the test, a small amount of water entered the basement of the residence through a floor drain. Because water did enter the basement with only a 105 gallon surge, it can be assumed that the septic tank has a low surge capacity. Therefore, care should be taken whenever surging the septic tank with a large amount of water, i.e. washing clothes, bathing, etc. If you should have any questions concerning this test or this letter, please do not hesitate to call.
