Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 REFERENCE: Lot 9, Block 4, Bruin Park Subdivision 11131 Forest Drive Request you issue a permit to upgrade the septic system serving the referenced property, AND grant a waiver for the horizontal separation distance between: (1) The well serving the referenced property and proposed septic tank and leachfield at 65 feet and 69 feet respectively. (2) The well serving the referenced property and the crib serving the adjacent Lot 10 at 90 feet. A test hole was excavated and a percolation test performed in the area of the propose septic system. The approximate location of the test hole is shown on the attached site plan. The monitoring tube within the hole has been checked and found to dry. We do not anticipate any adverse effects on neighboring properties by the installation of the proposed septic system. A waiver of the separation distance down to 61 feet, 64 feet, and 90 feet should be granted for the following reasons: Water samples obtained and tested on November 2, 1990, and July 16, 1993, did not show any nitrates detected. This would indicate the well has not been influenced by the existing encroachments after 35 years. The proposed septic system is located down hill from the well, which would prevent any overflowing of the system to migrate in the direction of the well. The foundation of the house is directly between the proposed septic system and the well. 17034 NORTH EAGLE RIVER LOOP · SUITE 204 · EAGLE RIVER, ALASKA 9957/' Page Two Bruin Park Subdivision, Block 4, Lot 9 July 23, 1993 From the well logs on the neighboring properties it appears that there are confining brown clay, gray clay, and hard pan layers that will prevent a subsurface migration into the aquifer. The brown clay, gray clay and hard pan layers appear to be present from 0-25 & 29-40 feet, 60-97 feet, and 126-160 feet respectively. As can be seen from the soils log: there exists approximately 4 feet of well graded sandy gravel in which a 2 foot sand filter will be installed over, working as a filtration system, purifying the effluent, helping to prevent contamination of the aquifer.
