Review
Dear Mr. Shafer:
This is in response to your submittal, received in this office on
January 15, 1991, which included the assessment report on the
condition of the components of the existing public water system
as requested in my January 2, 1991 letter. I have completed my
review of the submitted information and have the following
comments.
Based on the assessment report and the information received in
this office on November 14, 1990, it appears that the existing
public water system was installed in compliance with the
applicable State Regulations at the time of installation. In
addition it appears that current requirements, regulations, and
guidelines could be meet with the exception of the separation
distance between the existing septic tank and the public water
system source well. Therefore, the existing Class C Public Water
System serving the six bedroom duplex located on the above-
referenced property is approved for the concerns of this
Department. A final Operation Certificate, constituting this
approval, is enclosed for the public drinking water system.
With the issuance of the Operation Certificate for the existing
public water system, the requested separation distance waiver for
the 115 foot separation between the septic tank and public water
system source well can again be considered. As a result of my
review of the submitted information, the Department has found the
information provided to be satisfactory for allowing a waiver in
accordance with 18 AAC 72.035 and 18 AAC 80.020 (e), State
Wastewater Disposal and Drinking Water Regulations, respectively.
The separation distance between the septic tank and Class C
Public Water System Source Well has been waived from 150 feet to
115 feet.
Any changes to the existing public water system, the wastewater
disposal system (the existing septic tank is replaced) or the
influent volume increases above that of a six bedroom duplex will
invalidate this waiver.
At this time, the Department is assigning Public Water System
Identification (PWSID) Numbers to all Public Water Systems in the
State. As a result, the PWSID Number assi§ned to this system is
216813. The current State Drinking Water Regulations do not
require any routine water sampling for Class C Public Water
Systems; however, if the regulations change, the Department will
notify your clients. In order for the Department to contact your
client on the changes to the State Drinking Water Regulations,
please have them complete the highlighted areas on the enclosed
"Inventory Update Form" and return it to me.

Dear Mrs. McBirney:
On November 7, 1977, at your request we conducted a test of the septic
system on the above described property.
During the test, the liquid level in the septic tank was monitored as
water was added to the system. The following table summarizes these
measurements.

The meter used during the test was a Rockwell 5/8" standard water meter
which had been previously calibrated by R & M Consultants, Inc.
If it is assumed that the duplex on the property will house six people
in each 3-bedroom unit, the average load on the system can be expected
to be 900 gallons per day or 0.625 gallons per minute.
During the test the system accepted 366.10 gallons or approximately 28
percent of the daily load in 170 minutes. This indicates an acceptance
rate of 2.15 gallons/minute. We conclude that the system in questions
is accepting effluent at an adequate rate for a six-bedroom house.
