Mr. John Berggren .
Subject: Test Holes, Stoneridge Subdivision
Dear Mr. Berggren:
Transmitted herein are the soil logs for the test pits dug on the
subject property. A location sketch for these pits is also
enclosed.
The test pits were dug on May 20, 1981 to about 12 feet using a
Case 580 backhoe. The excavation was supervised and the test
)its were located and logged_~y Mr. Joh~ Berg~grg~ not'by Alaska
tlab or its pers~el. Three samples were reportedly obtained
from each hole and were Vi~'~11v classified in the field. They
were sealed in plastic bags, and were delivered to Alaska Testlab.
The samples were then visually identifiedin the laboratory by
Mr. Carl Bassler, geotechnical engineer with Alaska Testl&b.
The samples recovered from the test pits of this investigation
are largely coarse grained sands and gravels, with varying amounts
of fine grained (silt) particles. The predominant soil type
found was a silty sandy gravel, F-1 to F-3 frost classification.
The site soils were found to be generally quite tight_~ but should
be sufficiently p~u,~D~e ~ a~±ow on-s~te sewage disposal. They
also should prove to be good foundation and subgrade material.
{owever, paved areas may require NFS fill for frost protection.
Ground water was found only in Test Pit 1 at about 10.5 feet, to
the depth explored. Therefore, it appears that there should be
no problem with on-site sewage disposal. However, the water
table elevation will vary across the site and will fluctuate with
seasonal and weather changes.
