'['he proposed site for the home and septic tank/drainfield is on a slight mount. This mount is 10-15 feet above most oflhe nearby property. The soils at this site consist mostly of (course) sandy gravel with occasional cobbles. The site had been cleared and roughly graded. Two test holes were dug to approximately 12 feet, there was no evidence of groundwater. The soil type was extremely consistent with no real variation. A percolation test was performed at each hole, a visual classification (SP) of the soil type indicated a high percolation rate, this was confirmed. The soil percolation results are about 30 seconds per inch. A soil sample from the percolation layer at about the 7 foot depth was taken and a sieve analysis perfbrmed ( sieve analysis attached). About 75 % of the material passed the #4 sieve. There am virtually no fines (#200) in this soil. The soil is very clean. A shallow bed system was chosen fbr the site, design calculations are on the attached project sheets. A survey of the site, adjacent lots, and drainage patterns indicates there will be no adverse impacts of this installation on adjacent properties.( See attached site plan). There is adequate area for a replacement bed. Surface drainage is minimal, the soil has a high absorption capacity. A low area to the East (about 15 feet lower in elevation) has a high seasonal water table, but has no impact on this project. An existing well serves this lot, it was drilled in 1973 by Sam Cotton. A well log is attached. The well is fully cased to a depth of 53 feet. Simple test pumping this spring by Jim Sullivan indicated about 6-8 gpm sustained yield. It is expected to be quite adequate for this proposed home. The owner constructed the system. A number of deficiencies prevented final approval. These included a list compiled by MOA on 10/18/2000. Recent discussions with Deb Wockenfuss @ MOA eliminated many of these requirements. The system documentation is attached. During the course of this system documentation a high slope was discovered adjacent to the septic system. The normal slope -waiver procedure will not allow measurements that will be favorable. However the above MOA discussions allowed an alternative procedure. Inspection of the entire slope revealed no evidence of effluent breakout anywhere along this slope. The septic system has been in successful use since August 1996. The ground at the base of the slope is flat & the property line is a large distance from this slope. Neighbor properties would not be impacted by the slope. The sandy material evidenced by the design engineer evidently allows rapid infiltration without lateral migration.
