Alaska 99577 Telephone (907) 694-5195 May 22, 1985 Mrs. Susan Oswalt Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health Anchorage, Alaska 99501 Ref: BLM Lot 127, T15N R1W Section 9 Dear Mrs. Oswalt: In conducting a Health Authority Approval Inspection (HAA) on the above referenced lot I was unable ~o verify the recorded depth of the well servicing this lot. I believe that evidence indicates the well should be accepted by the Municipality without extensive and expensive testing procedures. The total depth recorded on the Inspection Report approved in 1973 by John Lee of the Municipality indicates a well depth of 54 feet. A probe of the well by myself and again by Jim Sullivan of Artic Well and Pump shows the apparent bottom of the well a5 33' below the surface of the ground. This would indicate that the well either 1. was drilled ~o 54', cased to 33', seated in bedrock and is sand filled, or 2. was drilled and cased to 54 and is sand filled to 33'. 3. well was drilled & cased to 33'. The aquifer tapped by the well is a confined aquifer and provides 20+ GPM at a ssatic water level of 19.5 feet. A confined aquifer causes an upward water pressure that creates the 19.5' static water level. This confinement can be caused by a clay or impermeable soil layer or more probably bedrock. While the subsurface conditions can change within a lot boundary, two drilling logs from neighboring wells indicate bedrock at 26' (BLM 125) and bedrock at 6' CBLM 140). These lots and their relative location to lot 127 are shown on the enclosed plot plan. The well was reportab]y drilled by a Bill Holsclaw who at that time worked for Lee Sullivan of Sullivan Water Wells. A check with Lee Sullivan showed no record of the well, but he stated that none of his wells are cased less than 40' unless seated in bedrock. I have conducted a search of all available M.O.A. and State D.G.G.S. records and no well log is available for lot 127. .
