All construction shall be in accordance with:
1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska
Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development
Services Department per AMC 15.65. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24/7).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
shall be either:
a. Opened and Closed on the same day, or
b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing
Special Provisions: A test hole is to be completed prior to construction of the septic field to demonstrate
separation to impermeable barrier and groundwater and to confirm percolation rate. An additional percolation
test hole shall be completed so that both the proposed and alternate fields are entirely within the 30 foot radius of
a percolation test. Location of test holes shall be as shown on permitted site plan. Construction may proceed at
your own risk before the 7-day groundwater monitoring is complete. If the results require a design change,
construction of the system shall stop pending On-site review and approval of a change order. Please submit
stamped and signed results of the test holes with the Inspection Report/Record Drawings.

Septic System Design and Permit Application
Impacts to Adjacent Properties
Dear Onsite Services Engineer:
The septic tank on the subject lot has failed and is currently collapsed and along with
the existing absorption system must be replaced. We are therefore requesting a permit
be issued for the upgrade of the septic system to accommodate the four-bedroom
home on the lot. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the
location and configuration of the existing and proposed septic systems along with the
existing well. The existing septic tank will be decommissioned in accordance with
Municipal Code. The existing absorption trench will be decommissioned in accordance
with Municipal Code.
Also identified on the plans are the locations of the existing well this lot and adjacent
lots. No conflicts exist between the proposed septic system and the wells on this or
adjacent lots. Drainage arrows are shown indicating the current drainage patterns.
The ground surface in the area of the proposed trench is virtually flat. The drainage
patterns will be maintained after construction.
The test hole recently placed on the lot indicated Sandy Gravel with some Silt (GM) in
the absorption zone of the trench. The percolation rate was determined to be between
4.4 and 5. Groundwater was encountered during the placement of the test hole at 8'
below the surface and rose to 5' during the monitoring period. We have designed the
new absorption system with an application rate of 1 .2 gallons per day per square foot.
We are proposing to place a new 1,250 gallon septic tank along with a 500 gallon add
on lift station and 2-50' long trench by 5' wide absorption trenches with a .5' effective
depth. The total depth of the system will be 1' with the distribution line varying from .5'
below the surface to .5' above the surface.

The existing absorption trench was found to be dry on May 13. It is located
approximately 16' from the new absorption trenches. The trench currently has 5' of
groundwater. This indicates the groundwater levels today are higher than those seen
on May 13 and more representative of the high water level.
The ground surface on the lot in the area of the new trench is flows slightly to the north
and parallel with the proposed trench. The elevation drop from the south to the north
end of the trench is slight. The trench will be placed out of parallel to the contours but
will remain entirely in the percolation zone in conformance with design criteria. MOA
approved sand will be placed to raise and level the trench and to replace organic
material under the trenches. A minimum of 100' will be maintained between all
components of the septic system and the proposed well and from any surface water in
the area.
If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements
apply:
1. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells
in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
2. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing
septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
3. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve
space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area.
4. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on drainage
patterns in the area. The current drainage pattern will be maintained.

Absorption Trench to Ground Contours
Dear Onsite Services Engineer:
Very little area remains on Lot 17, Block F, Timberlux No. 3 Subdivision to upgrade the
septic system. The usable are is limited by the location of the well on this and adjacent
lots. The most suitable area to place the new absorption trenches runs perpendicular
to the contours of the ground surface. The surface slope in the area is 2% in a south to
north direction. The distribution line in the absorption trench will be placed at .5' below
ground at the south end and at the ground surface at the north end. The organic layer
in this area is approximately .5' in depth. Organic material will be removed and
replaced with MOA approved sand. Sand will also be utilized to level the new trenches.
We therefore request a waiver be issued allowing placement of the new absorption
trench to run perpendicular to the ground slope contours.
