No. 1700264 This report is to request a Waiver for the separation distance between an existing well and an existing septic tank that is located on the same lot. The existing well and septic system on Lot 6 serve only the 4-bedroom single-family dwelling on the lot. The distance from the well to the nearest edge of the septic tank was measured in the field (straight measure)as 93 ft. The septic drainfield is greater than 100 ft from the well. The subject lot is privately owned, and is located on Berryhill Road, off approximately 6 mi Eagle River Rd in Eagle River Valley (see attached Location Map and Public Inquiry Parcel Details). The nearest main intersection is Berryhill Rd and Eagle-River Rd. Lot 6 is 2.35 acres in size. The surrounding area is residential in nature. Included with this submittal is the waiver fee of $ 1,128. Waiver Information The distance from well to the approximate nearest edge of the septic tank was measured to be 93 ft. There are no other potential sources of contamination within the setbacks specified in 18 AAC 80.020. There is a small drainage/creek approximately 160 fteast of the location of the septic tank and drainfield. The septic system on Lot 6 was installed in 1979. Documentation for this septic system was found on the MOA Onsite WW website (see attached, MOA Onsite File). The documentation shows the well was not installed at the time the septic system was installed. The well log is dated 9/14/79. The information on the septic system indicates the system was installed to serve a 4-bedroom home, consisting of a 1,250-gal Greer septic tank and a 6'ED x 42' deep trench soil absorption system. The well log indicates the well was drilled to a depth of 395 ft, with a static water level of 300 ft (see attached, Well Log, dated 9/14/79). The logs states the soil layers consist of sand and gravel layers to 30 ft below grade, followed by what they describe as "dolomite" to 75 ft, underlain by layers of"shell" (I am assuming they meant"shale") and quartz and dolomite to 395 ft. MOA Onsite Water/Wastewater June 7, 2017 Page 2 Grouting of the well casing was not required at that time. The well casing extends 33 inches above ground surface, drainage is directed away from the casing in all directions for at least 10 ft, and there is a sanitary seal in place. On May 24, 2017, a septic adequacy test and well flow test were conducted on Lot 6. The well flow test results indicate the well produced 601.9 gal over 3.13 hr. The static water level was 54 ft at the start of the test, drawing down to 320.8 ft after 3.5 hr, and returning to 45.4 ft at the 24- hr check. The septic adequacy test results show the water level in the monitor tube measured 0.0 inches at the beginning of the test, rose to 12.5 in, then fell back to 0.0 inches after 3.13 hr (see attached, Field Test Sheet, dated 5/24/17). The septic tank water level measured 49.5 in at the start of the test, rose 1 in, and then fell back to 49.5 in at the end of the test. The septic tank was pumped on 11/5/16 (see attached, One Stop Pumping receipt, dated 11/5/16). There are no other sources of contamination within the required setbacks for the subject well, as specified in 18 AAC 80.020. The topography of the subject lot is sloped from north to south, with the main floor of the house and the well casing at approximate elevation 850 ft and the lower level of the house and the septic system at approximate elevation 830 ft (see attached, Topo Map). On May 24, 2017, a raw water sample was collected from the subject well for a Health Guard I analysis: Total Coliform and E. Coli, Arsenic, and Total Nitrate/Nitrite-N. The results ND for Arsenic, and 0.362 mg/L Total Nitrate/Nitrite-N (see attached Test Results, SGS). The results for E. Coli were Absent, but the results for Total Coliform bacteria were "Present" (see attached Test Results, Mat Su Test Lab). On June 2, 2017, the well and entire water system were chlorinated, allowed to stand at least 24 hours, and then flushed. On June 5, 2017, a follow-up water sample was collected, and the results indicate Absent for all constituents. Based on the information available to us at this time, it is our opinion that the lesser separation distance of 93 ft between the well and the septic tank on Lot 6, Block 2, Valley View Est#1 Subdivision, will not have an adverse affect on groundwater quality.
