We request you grant a 84 feet separation distance waiver from the well on the referenced property to the septic tank. The following items are justification for the waivers: The lot is sloped down away from the well. The house is directly between the well and the septic system. If the septic system was to overflow, the effluent could not travel toward the well head. The other path of contamination is subsurface migration wastewater should the tank begin to leak. Attached are well logs for this property and several adjacent properties. Also attached are soils logs for several nearby septic systems. It appears that shallow bedrock is prevalent throughout the area, which is not favorable for granting a waiver. However, recent water sample results (from the subject well) indicate non-detectable nitrate levels and no bacteria present, which is an indication that there has been no adverse impact associated with this encroachment; consequently, we are requesting that your department issue an 84' separation distance waiver between the well and the septic tank on the subject lot. During the test the liquid level in the septic tank was monitored as water was added to the system. If the 3 bedroom residence on the property is to house 6 people, the average load on the system can be expected to be 450 gallons per day or .31 gallons per minute. During the test, the system accepted 175 gallons in 65 minutes. This indicates an average effluent acceptance rate of approximately 2.7 gallons per minute at the time of the test. Because the house on the lot is occupied, we assume that the leach field was not at its normal degree of saturation. We can therefore conclude that the system is disposing of effluent at an adequate rate for a 3 bedroom residence.
