All construction shall be in accordance with:
1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska
Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development
Services Department per AMC 15.65. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24/7).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
shall be either:
a. Opened and Closed on the same day, or
b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing
Special Provisions:
1. Locate and mark the water service line prior to construction.
2. If the 5' separation to the deck support can not be met, the support needs to be brought to the same
depth as the bottom of the tank.

The owner has requested that we obtain a septic permit to upgrade the existing aged steel septic
tank on the above referenced lot. We propose to install a 1250 -gallon HDPE tank per the
attached design to serve the existing 4 -bedroom residence. Aside in/out Infiltrator IM -1530 may
be considered if deemed more appropriate.
No groundwater was noted in the MOA on-site file and is not anticipated to affect the septic tank
installation. If groundwater is encountered during installation that may affect this septic tank
upgrade, an epoxy coated steel septic tank or other action may be required. An existing deck
greater than 30" high is close the existing septic tank and any deck supports within 5' of, the tank
will be installed to the same elevation of the bottom of the new tank.
The lot and area are served by public water and any encroaching wells, easements, ... must be
staked prior to construction. The water line in the front yard must be staked prior to construction.
The design will not impact any of the neighboring properties. Please contact us if you have any

Permits are issued on a calendar year basis by authority of Municipal
Ordinance. A new permit must be obtained from this Department for any
well and/or on-site sewer system not installed by the expiration date.
If you have drilled the well, a well log needs to be sent to t~is
Department for documentation of the installation and to close the permit.
If a private engineer inspected the installation of the on-site sewer system
the original as-built inspection report(three part form) must be sent to
this office for review and approval,and for documentation~

All materials and workmanship shall meet the requirements of 'tile
,'4unicipai~t~ of Anchorage, Deparlment of Health & Human Services (DHHS),
tile conditions of the permit, and all applicable rules and regulations
currently in effect.
All excava[5oas and depths are advisory, and are to be verified or
,nodt~,~ed in tile field by the Engineer or inspecting agency.
It is the responsibility of 'tile owner or installer to adhere 'to approved
design for the installation, to maintain the specified separation
distances and 'to have the appropriate inspections.
If the installation is not inspected by an AECS engineer, AECS wii] not be
responsible for the instal]ed syetem. An engineer al: AECS should be
consulted prior to construction, to determine tile number of inspections
that will be requiz'ed and. to explain what these inspections will involve.

The existing septic tank may be used, if it meets the capacit,V requirement

The septic tank shall he a UPC Approved two compartment tank, constructed
of 12-gauge steel with hitumastic coating and set level on undisturbed
soil. If the tank is buried at a depth of ~ feet or less, it must be
insulated with an overlying layer of 2 inch burial type po]ystyreue
rigid board insulation.
The septic tank shall be a minimum of 5 feet from the house foundation,
and a minJnlum of 5 feet from the absorption area,
The septic tank and bed shall be a minimum of 100 feet from any private
well or body of water, 150 feet from Class C wet]s, and 200 feet from
Cla~ A or B wells, unless otherwise specified. Less than the required
separation distance must have prior approval or waiver by DHHS or Alaska
Department of Enviranmenhat Conservation (ADEC).
Piping shall be fitted with a mechanical watertight calder coupling on the
outlet e. nd in]et of the septic task. The ]ids nmst be sealed and
watertight. Piping shall be 4-inch solid PVC ASTM D3034 or cast iron,
siaped a mintmum of i/4 inch per lineal foot. If the pipin~ is buried a~ a

Cieanouts shall be imsta!!ed as designated and capped with air-tight rain
caps (Ji!n caps or equivalent), and extend a minimum of I foot above
ground level.
Seepage Bed
The sand shall have an effective size of 0.4 to 0.6 MM and a uniformity
coefficent of not more tban ~.
The gravel for the bed shall be 0.5 to 2.5 inch, screened rock with less
tha~ 8% Dassiag ~200 sieve residual. All substitutes must have prior
DHHS approval.
The bottom of tbe excavation shall be level and raked with the backhoe
blade to insure that the bottom has not been compacLed during excavation.
The distribution pipe shall be perforated 4-inch rigid PVC witb a minimam
crush strength of 1500 pouads and shall meet the approval of DHHS for use
as drainfield pipe. Ail pipes shall be !aid level, sad spaced according
to the drawings,
bIonitor sLaudpipes simll be placed as shown in the drawings. They shall
be 4-inch rigid PVC ASTM D 8084, or cast iron. The section shows with
holes may be either drilled 0.5 inch boles on 6 inch centers on opposing
sides of the pipe, or a section of regular perforated sewer pipe may be
clamped to tbe solid section with a no-hub coupling or solvent joint.
Perforated section shall be located in gravel only. The portion of pipe
above the sewer rock shall be soiJd. A rubber raincap (Jim Cap or
equivaleat) shall be placed over the top of the pipe,
If the final grade over the bed Js less than 4 feet above the gravol,
insulation is required, usiag burial type potystene rigid board
insulation. There shall be 1 inch of imsulation for every foot of soil
less than the required 4 feet of cover, but there must be at least 2a
inches of soil even though insulation is used. The solid pipe extending
from the septic task to the drainfieid shall also have 4 feet of cover or
an equivaicmt layer of insulation combined with soil,
If insulation is not necessary, then the gravel must be covered with a
layer of a nonwoven fabric (such as Mirafai, FibreLex 200 grade,
Poly Filter X, or eqniva]ent).
The top and sides of the bed shall be planted mith a white clover and red
fescue m~x or blue grass.
4,0 Inspections
This bed wilt ~eqaire a minimum of three inspectioas. The first
inspection will be of the open excavation, to assure that the systei~ is
installed in hhe proper soil strata, correct depth and meet i~inimum
specified design parameters.
4.2 The :~econd inspection will be performed after sand fill is installed,
but pti. or to placement of gravel and distribution pipes. This inspection
will verify that the :filler is properly installed, that it meets
specifications and that it fulfills the intention of the design.
4,3 The [hird inspection will be after placement of gravel,
standpipes, and dJstributiou pipe, to verify proper installation and
position of pipes prior to backfill.

The inspection of the septic tank iastaliation can be incorporated with
aa¥ one of the above listed inspections.

Comments: This investigation was completed in compliance with MOA guidelines, regulations,
and best industry practices / methods. The assessment of the condition of the well and septic
applies only to the conditions as of the day tested. The flow and absorption rates may change
due to subsurface conditions that may not be observed from the surface, changes in land use,
local soil characteristics, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the year, quality of
construction (workmanship & materials), the water usage of the family being served by the
system and maintenance. The operational life of all well and septic systems are subject to
these various and dynamic characteristics and are outside the control of the evaluator of the
well and septic system. Therefore, any or NO estimate of how long a system will function satisfactory
for current or future occupants or guarantee that no unseen encroachments, deficiencies or
