B. Henson AREA Realty P.O. Box 249 Eagle River, Alaska 99577 Attention: Mr. Dick Anthony Subject: Soils Investigation for Sanitary Sewer System, Lot 181, Sec. 18 - R1W - T15N, Chugiak, Alaska Dear Mr. Henson: At your request of May 19, 1977, we conducted a subsurface soils investigation at the proposed location of the sanitary sewer system on the subject lot. The investigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage, Department of Health and Environmental Protection. This investigation, which was accomplished on May 19, 1977, consisted of a test hole excavated to a depth of 12 feet below the existing ground surface. The location of the test hole is shown in attached Drawing A-01. Excavation took place with a backhoe. In addition, all material excavated was continuously monitored by an experienced engineering geologist. The topography at the excavation site is generally horizontal. At the time of the investigation the site had original vegetation and ground cover. The top of the test hole was located at original ground surface. The soils encountered in the excavation are shown in the test hole log in Drawing A-01. Groundwater was encountered in the test hole at a depth of 10 feet. Bedrock was not encountered. Subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lot. Based on the visual classification of the soil and the requirements set forth by the Municipality of Anchorage, we determined that a percolation test was not necessary within the test hole on the subject site. NO 751163/ JL w . o. -Olj SOILS CLASSIFICATION~ CONSISTENCY AND SYMBOLS CLASSIFICATION: Identification and classification of the soil is accomplished in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. Normally, the grain size distribution determines classification of the soil. The soll {s defined according to major and minor constituents with the minor elements serving as modifiers of the major elements. For cohesive soils, the clay becomes the principal noun with the other major soil constituents used as modlf{er; i.e. silty clay, when the clay particles are such that the clay dominates soil prgperties. Minor soil constituents may be added to the classification breakdown in'accordance with the particle size proportion listed below; i.e. sandy silt w/some gravel, trace clay. no call - 0 - 3% trace - 3 - I2% some - 13 - 30% SOIL CONSISTENCY - CRITERIA: Soil consistency as defined below and determined by normal field and laboratory methods applies only to non-frozen material'. For these materials, the influence of such factors as soil structure, i.e. fissure systems, shrinkage cracks, slickensides, etc., must be taken into consideration in making any correlation with the consistency values listed below. In permafrost zones, the consistency and strength of frozen soils may vary significantly and unexplainably with ice content, thermal regime and so{/ type. Dimond Boulevard Anchorage, Alaska 99502 Dear Mr. Ca~oy, Reference: Lot 181: Section 18: T15N: R1W A sewer system adequacy test was performed on the system located on the referenced property, as you requested. The septic tank was pumped and verified to have a capacity in excess of 750 gallons. The absorption trench was tested by a continuous flow of water over a period of 48 hours. The average flow accepted by the trench during a 24 hour period was approximately 340 gallons. It can be concluded from this test that the waste water disposal system serving the two bedroom residence located on this property is currently [~~adequately for two bedrooms.
