Emergency Septic Tank Upgrade Permit Application
Design Narrative
The existing documented septic tank(1978 Greer steel 1250-gallon) has failed and requires immediate
replacement. It has ceased to allow septic effluent to pass through it to the drainfield and has been
found to be overflowing on several occasions. The owner of the four-bedroom home would like to
replace the failed tank immediately with a new 1250-gallon septic tank. A foundation cleanout or
double cleanouts will be installed before the new septic tank. Double cleanouts after the new septic
tank will be installed.
The existing septic tank is greater than 100 feet from the subject property's well and will be
decommissioned in accordance with the code.
The proposed septic tank will be installed with a minimum of 100-foot well separation to private wells.
Per AMC 15.65.030 C3,the existing septic tank is:
1. 5+feet from any property line or building foundation;
2. 10+feet from any water main or water service line;
3. 100+feet from any surface water;
4. 100+feet from private wells; and
5. Greater than the separation distances required by 18 AAC 72 from water supply wells.
The existing 500-sf drainfield is placed in 125-sf/bedroom soils, and although it's adequately sized to
accommodate four bedrooms it is currently only approved for three bedro ?CtedWAkgquesting it be

Dear Mr. Williamson:
We have received and reviewed a plot plan of the sanitary
facilities you plan to construct on the subject lot. The
facilities will serve a duplex and thus, the water system
must be considered a class C public system. The project
is approved for the features with which this department is
concerned providing:
1. The well must be located at least 150 feet from the
septic tank and dralnfield.
2. Sewer lines situated within 75 feet of the well ~ust be
encased in concrete (at least 4 inches on all sides).
Please contact this office prior to pouring the footings as
we must verify compliance with the stimulated conditions.

A sewer system adequacy test was performed on the system
located on the referenced property, as you requested.
A verification of the septic tank ~/as performed and it's
capacity of approximately 1000 gallons was recorded.
The absorption area was tested by a continuous flow of
water through a clean-out at {he rate of approximately
30 gallons per minute without any adverse effect 0D the
system.
It can be concluded from this test that the waste water
disposal system serving the three bedroom modular home
located on this property is currently functioning adequately.
However the system cannot be guaranteed against subsequent
failures.
If we may be of further service, please do not hesitate to
call.
