During the health authority inspection it was noted that the original absorption area did not coincide with what was found. Upon further investigation we found that the original crib had collapsed during the summer of 1983. Mr. Brown decided that to cure the situation as soon as possible, he would install a new absorption area. Having some experience with heavy equipment the new absorption area was instal]ed and working within a few days of the collapse of the crib. Not wanting any more problems with his on-site system, he installed what he thought was an oversized system. A test hole was drilled on the subject lot to a total depth of 15 feet without encountering water: The system dimensions area as follows: Width 4 feet, length 45 feet, and gravel depth of 5.6 feet. Well graded gravel sand mixture with a soil rating of 150 square feet per bedroom was observed. The Manual of Septic Tank Practice states that additional credit may be given for a shallow absorption trench depending on width and depth of the gravel in the trench. Using the equation given on Page 20, Table 3 for the percentage of length of trench allowed, 37% of the straight calculation for total length is all that is needed, or 41.67 feet. This indicates that the system is larger than required for this dwelling, A total depth to the bottom of the field is 9.25 feet placing the system at 5.75 feet above tile bottom of the testhole. An adequacy test was performed on September 22, 1986. The results show that the system is adequate for more thau S bedrooms. This system does not violate any separation distances (i.e. wells, other systems, water table, etc). We request that health authority approval be given for tile subject lot based on the information we have collected. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 561-5040.
