The existing septic tank has collapsed and sewage is backing up into the house, we are requesting an emergency review of the design and issuance of the permit. We are proposing to remove the existing 1000 gallon septic tank and replace it with a new 1000 gallon septic tank. July 16, 1980 R&M N*. 051~1-4~ Lynn Luther 6710 Roundtree Drive Anchorage, Alaska Re: Adequacy Test on Existing Sanitary, Sewer System; Lot 58, Block 1, Valley View Subdivision, Anchorage, Alaska Dear Mr. Luther: Per your request of July 7, ]980, we conducted a test of the sanitary sewer system on the above described property. The septic tank was pumped prior to the performance of the test on the seep- age pit. During the test the liquid level in the seepage pit was monitored as 465 gallons were removed and 700 gallons were pumped back into the seepage pit to the inlet level. After twenty four hours the liquid level was measured again at 8.40 feet. It had dropped 3.65 feet or 43.8 inches. This indicates an average effluent acceptance rate of 380 gallons per day for the surrounding soils. If the 3 bedroom residence on the property is to house 6 people, the average load on the system can be expected to be 450 gallons per day. As this indicates a failing condition a second test was conducted on July 16, 1980~ at which time the surge capacity of the seepage pit was tested. 120 gallons of water were introduced into the pit before backing up into the septic tank. The surge capacity for a three bedroom house should be 400 gallons. We can therefore conclude that the system is not disposing of effluent at an adequate rate for a 3 bedroom residence, v-~ ,~ The tests was performed on July 9th and ]6th, 1980, and they indicate the adequacy of the system at the time tested.
