The septic tank shall be sufficiently bedded to prevent settling or shifting of the tank. 3. All standpipes on the septic tank shall extend a minimum of 12 inches above final grade. 4. Septic tanks installed with less than 4 ft. of cover shall be insulated. 5. A foundation cleanout shall be installed one to four feet from the building foundation. In the line between the tank and the leachfield there shall be two adjacent cleanouts (unless an effluent pumping system exists within the septic tank). These cleanouts shall be located on undisturbed soil not more than 10 ft. from the tank. The first cleanout, in line, shall be to clean toward the leachfield. The second cleanout shall be to clean toward the septic tank. 6. Final grading over the septic tank shall be such that a positive slope exists away from the septic tank. MINIMUM MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS: Any septic tank proposed for installation must be constructed by a Municipal approved septic tank manufacturer. 2. These inspections will occur as follows: The first inspection must be conducted after the septic tank is set in place, but may not be backfilled until after this inspection. 2. The final inspection is to occur upon final grading of the property. The inspecting engineer is to be contacted at least 24 hours prior to the start of construction. If necessary, a pre -construction meeting will take place on-site. The inspecting engineer will not coordinate, direct or control in any way the contractors activities. The owner shall contract with the contractor to perform the work outlined in these specifications and plans and in accordance with the attached M.O.A. permit. There will be no contractual arrangement existing between the contractor and S & S Engineering. S & S Engineering shall be the ownces representative and will inspect the work as stated above to document the contractors activities. Final acceptance of the contractors work rests with the owner and the M.O.A. S & S Engineering shall have no liability to the owner or to others for acts or omissions of the contractor or any other persons performing work on this project or the failure of the contractor to carry out the work in accordance with these construction documents. The test holes dug adjacent to the existing system showed a tight, silty soil which would not percolate. Test holes were dug in excess of 20 feet and no groundwater was encountered, therefore groundwater has been eliminated as a cause of problems. A test hole dug to the north of the house showed a more favorable soils horizon and several options exist for putting a system in that area. These possibilities are listed below: A deep trench with 3 feet of gravel 18.5 feet deep, 3 feet wide, and 75 feet long. A deep trench with 3 feet of gravel 18.5 feet deep, 5 feet wide, and 58 feet long. A shallow bed system with a lift station, 45 feet by 22 feet and 5 feet deep. A shallow trench with a lift station, consisting of three 37 feet lengths, 6 feet deep, 3 feet wide, with 3 feet of gravel. If a deep trench system is used, the system can be added to the end of the existing system. Whichever system is selected, it will have to go through the driveway. Also, since it will have to pass under the water service line special protection and separation requirements must be met per state code. Bo 4-1141 Anchorage, AK 99509 Re: Subsurface Investigation for On-Site Sewer System Lot 22, 23, 24, & 25, Block 4; Valli-Vue Estates Dear Mr. Pruett: Transmitted herein are the results of the subsurface investi- gation and percolation tests performed on the above referenced lots on September 3, 1975. The drilling was accomplished with a Mobile Drill B-50 drill rig mounted on a Flextrack-Nodwell tracked vehicle, owned and operated by Denali Drilling Inc. The test holes were logged and the drilling supervised by Mr. Pete Herstek, staff technician with Alaska Testlab. The locations of the test holes are sketched on the attached Figure 1. Table A is the logs of the test holes drilled. Standard explanatory information is contained in the back of this report and should prove helpful in interpretting the data contained on the test hole logs. The test holes drilled on Lots 22 and 23 showed permeable material that should accept a septic tank/seepage system. Classification of the soils was by visual means. Both holes were percolated. After having been saturated overnight, the test hole on lot 22 percolated at a rate of 2.1 minutes per inch, while the test hole on lot 23 percolated at a rate of 3.1 minutes per inch. These rates were maintained for 60 minutes. Utilizing the data published in Table A "Area Requirements for Individual Residences" on page 8, 0f the "Manual of Septic Tank Practice", published by the U.S. Department of Health, Education & Welfare, the absorption of the area requirements for seepage pits placed on these two lots are 90 square feet per bedroom and 105 square feet per bedroom respectively.
