Ref: Proposed Septic System Upgrade for Valli Vue Estates S/D #2; Block 5, Lot 15
To whom it may concern:
The referenced property has a 4-bedroom home on it that is served by a community water system and
a private septic system. The septic system consists of a 1250 gallon steel septic tank and a log crib
type drainfield that was installed on 7/16/1974 (almost 45 years old). The septic system is in a state
of failure and need to be upgraded. We are also proposing a new IM-1530 two-compartment Infiltrator
tank septic tank and a new deep trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed
design are as follows:
1. SOILS: Attached is a soil log which shows the soils classification, percolation test data and 7-day
groundwater monitoring. The percolation test was performed between 6.0 to 7.0 feet and the
absorption rate was 1.5 minutes/inch. We are proposing to use a 1.2 gpd/sq.ft. application rate for this
design with a deep trench type drainfield.
2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications.
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns.
4. TOPOGRAPHY AND SLOPE WAIVER: The topography is generally from northeast to southwest
in the area of the proposed drainfield. There are slopes are greater than 25% approximately 22 feet
east of the proposed drainfield. Attached is a cross-sectional detail drawing that conservatively shows
the slope conditions. As can be seen on this drawing, an imaginary 25% slope line starting 2.5 feet
above the prosed invert of the distribution line daylights approximately 35 feet downhill of the proposed
drainfield. We are requesting a 22-foot waiver to a slope greater than 25% from the proposed
drainfield. Justification for this waiver is the existing surcharged log crib is very close to this slope and
there is no indication of daylighting effluent. Further justification for this waiver is that the steep slopes
are heavily vegetated which will prevent sewage from daylighting. Also, given the soils porosity, it Is
anticipated that there will be rapid downward movement of the wastewater. Based upon these
justifications, it is our opinion there is minimal risk with granting this waiver.
5. LOT LINE WAIVER: As you can be seen on the design, we are proposing the new drainfield will
be 5'+ from the northwest lot line. The adjacent septic system is over 10 feet from the shared lot line.
The lot line is required to be flagged/staked by a registered land surveyor prior to construction to
ensure the setback will be met. We request a 5 lot line waiver be granted for this installation.

Gentlemen:
We are submitting herewith the test boring results and our comments
regarding soil conditions encbuntered at the subject site. This
investigation was performed in accordance with your request of June 26,
1974, and those procedures outlined in a letter dated September 13, 1971
by Mro Rolf Strickland of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department
of Environmental Quality°
A single test hole was put down within the Lot 15 area for the purpose of
defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary system.
Excavation was accomplished with a tractor-mounted backhoe and the test hole
was extended to a total depth of 12.0 feet below ground surface. The final
log prepared for the test hole has been included in Drawing A-01.
Ground water was not encountered in the test hole.

As certified by my seal affixed hereto and as of the validation date shown below, I verify that my investigation,
based on procedures outlined in the Certificate of On -Site Systems Approval Guidelines for this application,
shows that the on-site water supply and/or wastewater disposal system is (are) safe, functional and adequate
for the number of bedrooms and type of structure indicated herein. I further verify that based on the information
obtained from the Municipality of Anchorage files and from my investigation and inspection, the on-site water
supply and/or wastewater disposal system is(are) in compliance with all applicable Municipal and State codes,
ordinances, and regulations in effect at the time of installation.

In conducting this evaluation, GEG provided an engineering evaluation of the well and/or septic system
in accordance with the guidelines and regulations established by the Municipality of Anchorage and
industry practices. The reported results describe the condition of the system/s on the date/s of the
evaluation. Separation distances were measured to readily identifiable features. Hidden defects or
encroachments may exist that were not identified during the evaluation. The operational life of all wells
and septic systems depend upon a variety of variables, including but not limited to, soil conditions,
groundwater levels (that may fluctuate during the year), quality of construction (materials and
workmanship), and the water usage of the family utilizing the system/s. These conditions can vary, and
are outside the control of GEG. Satisfactory test results do not guarantee future performance of the
system/s; therefore, GEG makes no warranty (express or implied) regarding the future performance of
the well or septic system. GEG makes no representation whether an alternative well or septic system
can be installed on the property in the event either of the current systems fail to perform adequately in
the future. The content of this report is for the sole benefit of the person/party that retained GEG to
perform the evaluation. Reliance upon the information provided in this report by any other person or
party (including subsequent property purchasers) is not authorized, nor will it confer any legal right
whatsoever.
