Ref: Valli Vue Estates #2; Block 6, Lot 9 — Sump on Southeast Trench
To whom it may concern:
A design was submitted and approved for the subject property on 6/25/2021. On the permit, it
required that the contractor install a cleanout and monitoring tube on both "legs" of the 1985
drainfield. On 12/17/21 the new tanks were installed by A+ home services. The sump on the
northwest trench was located and found to be functional. Per the contractor a cleanout and
monitoring tube could not be installed on the southeast trench without incurring a significant cost
to the homeowner (due to limited access to the drainfield site). Based upon this fact, we are
requesting that your department waive locating the sump on the southeast leg of the 1985
drainfield as a condition for issuance of a COSA. Justifications for granting this variance are as
follows:
• An adequacy test was performed through the sump on the northwest trench. The sump
extends approximately 7.3 feet below the invert of the distribution line. Per GEG
inspection the northwest trench passed an adequacy test for 5 bedrooms.
• During the adequacy test on 11/19/21 GEG again attempted to locate the sump for the
south east trench but was unsuccessful.
• The sump cannot be installed without unreasonable cost to the homeowner.
• Per the 1985 record drawings, the sump should be outside of the utility easement (18' off
the north lot line).
• There are no private wells on the adjacent properties.

On March 6, 1984 I investigated the property at
_ ~O~D~v .
L9, B6 in order to try and find out where the wa~'er servzce
line to the house was. Using a TW-5 M-Scope, we managed to
trace the water service line from the key box at the edge of
Roundtree Drive to where it enters the house. The line runs
North for 40', then swings to the East to go around a grove of
trees which line the East side of the septic tank. It then
swings NW to enter the house 6' North of where the septic line
leaves the house (see Figure).
The cleanout to the disposal field was also located. It is at
ground level, of 4" cast-iron, and is capped. The top of the
crib was -3.6' below ground level and the water level was at
-4.9'. If the dimensions given in the MOA inspection of 8/74
(18 x 28), are correct, then the water service line, which is
23' from the field cleanout, is not in violation of any
regulations.

Dear Keith:
On March 3, 1984 I performed a Health Authority on Valli Vue Subdivision
#2, Lot 9, Block 6. We were not able to locate the cleanout into the
disposal field.
This house is on a Class A community well. There are no as-builts
available for the location of the water lines leading from the water
main to the house. Two key boxes were located between this house, L9
B6, and the lot which is immediately to the East of this, L10 B6. The
water line enters the house on the East side, some 6' North of where the
sewer lines exit the house. There are some large (15"+) diameter tress
in a direct line between the key box and the site of the water line
entry into the house (see figure). The water lines would have to go
West of the trees, which would put them within 4-6' of the septic tank
cleanout, or go East of the trees, putting them over 15' away from the
septic tank cleanout. Either way, the water line appears to clear the
disposal field by a safe margin. Without excavation, there is no way to
determine exactly where the house water lines run. It is unlikely that
either the septic system or the water lines could have been installed as
close as 4-6' to each other without the contractor or inspector being
aware of the existence of the other.
We recommend that a conditional Health Authority be issued contingent
upon the water service lines being located and the cleanout to the
disposal field either being located or a new one installed as soon as
the ground unfreezes.
