Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 RE: Valhalla SID, Blk 1, Lot 3 Septic System Upgrade: Holding Tank To Whom It May Concern: Attached please find the application and supporting documentation to install a 4000 gallon holding tank for the referenced 3 bedroom house. The existing holding tank has failed. The existing 2000 gallon holding tank was installed in 1990 and is taking on ground water. The area has shallow groundwater; the soil log for the lot to the south showed groundwater at 1 ft in April 2002. It is proposed to abandon the existing holding tank in place and install a new 4000 gallon holding tank. There are no slope concerns, and the holding tank will be placed more than 75 ft from any private well. I am not aware of any adverse effect that this upgrade would have on any adjacent properties' water and wastewater treatment needs. Thank you for consideration of this permit application. Upon inspecting the ctawC space ob the home we bound evidence o6 a high groundwater levet and an active sump pump which aP.ao denotes a groundwater problem. SOILTEST This whole area is notoriou4 bon high groundwater levels in6luencing septic systems. A holding tank was fust inatatted three lots away on Lot 0 to resolve their groundwateA/septic system problems. We suspect a holding tank may be the only option Gor this property. PERCOLATION TEST To Gunther investigate the wabtewaten disposat options bon this pnopehty, and to veAi6y a groundwater problem, a teat hole needs to be excavated within the Northmeat connen o6 the lot since this would be the STRUCTURAL& only area available bon an upgrade. This investigation was performed in accordance with your request of July 21, 1976 and those procedures outlined in a letter dated July 15, 1975, by Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department of Environmental Quality. A single test hole was put down in each of the designated lots for the purpose of defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary system. Excavation was accomplished with an auger type drilling rig and each test pit was extended to a total depth of 19 feet below ground surface. The final logs prepared for the test holes has been included in Drawing A-01. Ground water was encountered in test hole. Two at a depth of 12 feet while drilling.
