A test hole was excavated and found silty gravels with sand layers for the full 18 foot depth. No water was observed during excavation or after the 7-day monitoring period. The perc rate was measured at 15 minutes per inch. The MOA records do not have much information about the system, but after inspection the tank is concrete and installed prior to 1970 when 50 feet was the standard separation distance. The owner filled a small section of his yard along the west property line which created a 4 foot steep slope at the west property line therefore the new system has been designed below that elevation. The slope of the lot is to the west at about 5 to 7 percent. This new system will not impact any of the surrounding neighbors. Sincerely Michael N. Dear Mrs. Morrison: At your request, we performed a percolation adequacy test on your existing septic system during the period September 4 to 6, 1979o You reported that your system consists of a septic tank, seepage pit and seepage trench, and that the house is a 3-bedroom residence. It was determined in the field that the septic tank drains to both the seepage trench and the seepage pit. A septic system must be designed to or an existing system tested to determine that it will dispose of the Total Daily Load in a 24-hour period. The Total Daily Load is computed at 75 gallons per person per day (gcpd), and the Municipal wastewater disposal regulation states that a dwelling will be considered to have two persons per sleeping room. Accordingly, the Total Daily Load for your septic system was computed to be 450 gallons per day,,and 110 percent or 500 gallons of fresh water was added to your septic system. The water was obtained from you~ private well and metered with a Neptune 5/8-inch water meter. The liquid levels in the' seepage pit and septic tank were monitored at 50-gallon increments to protect against the system backing up into the house. The test was begun by adding the water to the seepage pit, since it was reported that the drain pipe ran from the septic tank to the seepage pit, then to the seepage trench, a normal configuration. However, on adding water to the septic tank, water could be heard running into the seepage pit standpipe and the seepage trench clean out. Therefore, the test was re-started, and water was added to the system at the septic tank. Since a soll absorption disposal system must be capable of disposing of 450 gpd, your septic system appears to be f~zaetionally adequately at this t£me~ Many factors affect the performance of a septic system, age, main- tenanee, types of waste, and construction teehniques are a few.
