Lot 4, Block 4, Valhalla Subdivision is only 100' wide and 185' in length. Very little area
is available on the lot for placement of the new holding tank. The existing holding tank
is only 70' from the well on the lot. The new tank will be placed outside the 75'
protective radius, but must be 1.5' from the north property line. Placement of the tank
in this area will not impact either the well or septic system on the lot to the north. The
west property line borders the Wilderness Drive right of way. We request a waiver be
issued allowing the new holding tank to be 1.5' from the north property line.

Septic System Design and Permit Application
Impacts to Adjacent Properties
Dear Onsite Services Engineer:
The existing holding tank on Lot 4, Block 4, Valhalla Subdivision has failed and must be
replaced The soil conditions on the lot will not support placement of a conventional
septic system and a high tech septic system is extremely expensive due to high
groundwater and the presence of adamant subsurface soils. We are therefore
proposing to place a new 2,000 -gallon steel holding tank to serve the three-bedroom
home on the lot. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the
location and configuration of the existing well and holding tank along with the proposed
location of the new holding tank. Also identified on the plans are the locations of wells
and septic systems on adjacent lots. Drainage patterns and ground surface slopes are
shown on the Site Plan. The drainage patterns will be maintained after construction.
The existing holding tank is less than 75' from the well on the lot. The new tank will be
placed outside the 75' protective radius of the well. To do so will require placement
within 2' of the north property line and 8' from the west property line. A lot line waiver
request is attached to the permit application. The new tank will be more than 75' from
all neighboring wells.
The ground surface on the lot slopes at shallow grades to the northwest. The new
holding tank will be constructed at a location just north of the existing tank and as
parallel with the slope of the land as possible in conformance with Municipal
requirements.
If the tank is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply:

1. The tank, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in
the area or those to be constructed in the future.
2. The tank, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing
septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
3. The tank, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve
space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area.
4. The tank, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on drainage
patterns in the area. The current drainage pattern will be maintained.

Septic Field Data
The septic system was installed in 1972. The approximate depth of
the septic tank is 10 feet from ground surface. The tank has
encroached the subject well for more than 30 years.
Well Data
The well was installed approximately in1974. The engineer was
unable to locate the well log however other well logs in the area were
provided, which show a relatively consistent soil strata for the area.
From the bottom of the septic tank there is a sandy gravelly soil to 87
feet and then a hard pan from 87 feet to 132 feet. The water sample
results from the subject well show nitrates well with -in municipal
standards.

Waiver Request: Well to Lot 3 Septic Tank
To Whom It May Concern:
We respectfully request a waiver for the distance from the well on the subject lot to the
Lot 3 septic tank to the existing 67 ft.
The septic tank was installed in 1979 and reported to be 70 ft from the well. However,
no waiver was requested, and the inspection report was not approved.
I believe that the reduced distance from the well to the septic tank will not lead to
contamination of the well or the aquifer for the following reasons:
1) Satisfactory water analysis from the subject well (even after 28 years),
2) Well depth of greater than 100 ft provides substantial vertical separation,
3) Soil strata between the aquifer and the surface provide an adequate barrier,
4) The ground level at the well is higher in elevation than that at the tank, and
5) The house is situated between the tank and the well, providing a barrier at the
surface.
The water analysis on the well from a sample taken on October 23, 2007 reported no
nitrate and no bacteria. The lab report is attached.
There is no well log available for the subject well which was drilled in 1968. A well log
from a nearby well indicates a "hardpan" barrier from 87 ft to 139 ft and a total depth of
141 ft. Copies of nearby well logs are attached.

The expected direction of flow of potentially surfaced effluent from the septic tank would
not be toward the well. This is shown on an attached site plan.
Based upon these facts, I believe that the potential for contamination of the subject well
and the aquifer is minimal. Therefore, I request that the required distance from the well
to the septic tank be waived to the existing 67 ft.
