Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Septic Upgrade Design for Lot 40, Block 1, Wynter Park Subdivision #1 To whom it may concern: The existing trailer house is served by a private septic system and a community well. The existing trailer is to be removed and a proposed 3 bedroom house is to be built. The existing septic system consists of a septic tank and a crib which is surcharged. The existing septic tank is to be abandoned completely and the existing crib is to be abandoned such that it may be used in the future. We request a permit to install a proposed deep trench with a 1000 gallon septic tank (see attached design). Also, we request you issue a 5 foot lot line waiver from the south property line to the proposed deep trench and alternate site. Comments regarding the proposed upgrade design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached are a log which shows the soil profile, and the percolation test result. The soils below the organics are primarily silty, sandy, gravel with SP pockets throughout to a depth of 16 feet (bottom of test hole). No groundwater was encountered during the excavation of the test hole. One soil percolation test was performed at 5.5 to 6 feet which perked out at a rate of 4.4 minutes/inch. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 4.4 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.8 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 600 ft2 f. Total Depth: 10 feet (max.) g. Effective Depth: 8 feet ofdrainrock h. Width: 3 feet i. Minimum Length: 40 feet j. Effective absorption area = 640 f't2 (>600 ft2 OK) :3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade. 4. TOPOGRAPltY: Beginning at the west side of the existing trailer, the lot slopes downward from approximately west to east at a grade of approximately ten percent (see attached design). There are no slope concerns. I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems.
