Subject: Williamson #2, Block 2, Lot 32 - Septic Upgrade
Per previous discussions with you, a testhole was performed on September 21,
2009 to investigate groundwater. The results of this test are attached for your
review. The owner has requested we proceed forward to obtain a septic permit
to upgrade the failed leachfield on the subject lot.
Due to the fact that this is the only location for the absorption field, this upgrade
design will constructed per the previously permitted design SW930424. The
existing sewer rock, sand filter, and any contaminated soil will be excavated and
disposed off-site per code. The general slope of this lot is from east to west at a
grade of approximately 0-5 %.
With the exception of one lot across the street, the property and adjacent lots are
served by public water. There is no surface water within 100' of the proposed
system and there are no known curtain drains within 50'. We do not expect there
to be any adverse effect on adjacent lots by the development of this system. If

Ladies and/or Gentlemen:
Ill June of this year, we were asked to evaluate the failed septic system on the referenced property. We
deterndned that the existing seepage pit and draimqeld, which was added iii 1981, have ceased to perform
their designed functions. We performed a soils analysis on all adjacent site on the west side of the
property and north of the existing pit. We found soils able to receive septic tank effluent at a depth of 2.1
to 5.2 feet below die surface. These soils are a coarse sandy gravel (GP). We have designed a draiiffield
adequate in size to accommodate a four bedroom resideRce.
We also determined the septic taak has failed and is iii need of replacement. We are mcorporatiRg a new
1,250 gallon septic tank into tlfis design.
As required by AO-90-48 (S-l), Section 15.65.030.D.4. we are submitting a narrative description of
probable impacts to adjacent properties.
In order to accommodate die draiiffield, we would be encroaching on the 100'
radius required for the private well ou Lot 7, Block 3, Williamson #2. This
well is the only private well iii the subdivision. The remaining lots m die
subdivision are selwed by a community well. We have made arrangements to
have this well abandoned and to connect the Leach family (owners iii
residence) of Lot 7, Block 3, Williamson #2 to this community system and
properly abandon the private well.
Adjoining lots iii the subdivision are also served by on-site wastewater systems.
The upgrade of the e.-dstmg system of the referenced lot should have little if any
impact on adjoining systems.
Designation of a reserved space is not required with au upgrade. The existing
seepage pit and dmiidield, which have failed, will be left ill place and the septic
tank effiuem diverted to the new drailffield. These systems should recover and
be available as reserve fields if unused.

Application is hereby made for the grmiting of a separation distance waiver according to Anchorage
Municipal Code, Chapter 15.65.140.
1. Description of separation distances for which waiver is requested.
A separation distance waiver of 84..0' from the proposed on-site draimqeld for L32, B2 Williamson #2 to a
private well located in rile NE portion of LT, B3, Williamson #2. The waiver is requested as the only
reasonable way to serve the existing unit and stay 10' away from the existing failed system.
RECEIVED
2. Information on soils and topography.
The ground around the proposed site gently slopes upward to the west at about 1% gradient toward the
neighboring private well. To the east of the house it slopes upw,'u:d at a 5% slope. The ground to the
nm'th proceeds level for about 50', then slopes dowuward at a 3% slope.
No bedrock was found in either of the recent or previous test holes dug ou site.
The soils data collected fi'om test hole information extending downward consists of about 1 ,l' layer of
lomn underlain by a 3.5' clemz gravelly sand (GW) layer. Beneath tlds frmn 7.6' to 9.,6' lies a silty sandy
gravel (GM/SM) layer. Beneath this lies 1.4 of sandy silt (SM) and the final 3' to the bottmn of the 14'
T.H. was found to be gravelly silt (GM) material. (See enclosed soil log.)
3. Well by well log information.
There is no fldly recorded well log for the well on Lot 7, Block 3, Williamson #2. There is record of its
extension (included) from 200 to 240 feet, with a cased depfl~ of 238'. This will place thc bottom of rile
proposed adsorption field 232' from rile cased depth of the well in question.
In an atteznpt to provide geologic izfformation on the area, rile well logs from three surrounding wells have
been provided. A map is presented identifying the locations of the wells. Please note that the closest well

Approval for your individual sewer and water facilities
cannot be granted until the following items have been
completed:
(1) The septic tank pumped with a receipt submitted to
this office.
(2)
An adequacy test needs to be performed on the existing
leaching area. This test will determine if the system
is adequate according to National Standards. A listing
of private firms performing the test is enclosed. This
report needs to be submitted to this department for our
review.
(3)
The application shows the number of bedrooms exceeds the
number the sewer system was originally designed for. An
upgrade will be required~ the addition of a 500 gallon
septic tank. Prior to any upgrade, a permit needs to be
issued from this department.

Test Result: The absorption cri'b has a volume of 478 ga]. per foot; of depth.
During the first 20 hours after pumping the t~nk the liquid level
in the crib subsided 9 inches. This is equivalent to an absorption
rate of 420 gal per 24 hours. During the next 4~ hours the rate
was 120 gal per 24 hours.,
