The system was originally permitted and constructed in December of 1985 and has remained in service since that time. We are submitting this design and permit application for the replacement of the existing system. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home and the existing well and septic system. The proposed septic location is also shown. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system on this lot or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot is virtually flat in the area of the proposed absorption bed. The existing bed will be abandoned in place and all piping will be removed. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet downslope of the absorption bed. Drainage arrows are shown on the Site Plan indicating the grade and direction of flow. The absorption bed will be constructed with the use of Engineered Receiving Soils. Existing material will be excavated to a depth of 6’ below the surface. Approximately 2’ of select backfill meeting the gradation of Municipal Type IIA backfill will then be placed. A 2’ layer of Municipal Approved Sand will be placed atop the backfill layer. The bed will then be constructed atop the sand. All organic material under the perimeter of the new bed will be removed and replaced with in situ silty gravel to provide structural support for the mound. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The lot to the East contains the Matanuska Electric substation. Grounding wells are located on this lot. These wells are clearly marked and do not include a bottom hole pump. They are not intended to be used for providing drinking water. The closest well is more than 100’ from the proposed absorption system and more than 70’ from the proposed septic tank location. The attached base map shows the location of the nearest grounding well. The new system will be a minimum of 50’ from all wells and surface water and more than 5’ from the septic tank.
