Dear Mr. Garness:
Your request for a waiver of the required 10 foot separation
between an on-site wastewater disposal system and a lot line has
been approved. The waived distance is 5 feet from the absorption
field to the propeT~y line.
This approval applies to the existing on-site wastewater disposal
system lot line separation only. Any future upgrade to the on-site
wastewater disposal system will require all separations be met or
another approval from this department.

Subject: Waiver of Separation Distance from Septic Absorption Field to Lot Line.
Lot 4, Bk 1, Greenland S/D.
To whom it may concern:
A permit was issued on 9/5/97 to upgrade the septic system on the subject property. The design
drawings stated that "the contractor shall have the west property line located by a registered land
surveyor". The contractor, A+ Home services, did not get the lot lines located and proceeded to
excavate the south trench (without the approval fi'om Alaska Water & Wastewater). When our
engineer (Jim Williams, P.E.) arrived to perform the first inspection, he informed A+ Home
services that the installation could not proceed until the west property line (shared with Lot 5, Bk
1, Greenland S/D) was flagged by a surveyor. The contractor arranged to have the line flagged
the following day, at which time it was determined that the trench was only about 5 feet away
from the property line. The neighbor (Judy Lamb) made numerous calls to DHHS (Jim Cross,
and Dan Roth) regarding this encroachment.
As discussed with Dan Roth there appears to be adequate room on the adjacent property (Lot 5,
Bk 1, Greenland) for future upgrades while still maintaining an adequate (20'+) separation
distance to the new septic system on Lot 4, Bk 1, Greenland. In short, there does not appear to
be any adverse impact associated with the subject encroachment. It is my recommendation that
the separation distance from the trench to the west property line be waived from 10 feet to 5 feet.

Ref: Sewer Upgrade for Lot 4, Bk 1, Greenland S/D.
To whom it may concern:
The existing 3 bedroom house is served by private well and septic system. The drainfield is failed
at this time, and must be upgraded. Comments regarding the proposed upgrade are summarized
as follows:
1. SOILS: Attached is a log which shows the soil profile, and the percolation test results. At
· 2
a depth of 3.5 to 4.0 feet the soil perked in the 5 to 15 minutes per ~nch (.8 gpd/ft ). At a depth
of 7.0 to 7.5 feet the soils perked in 30 to 60 minutes per inch range (.45 spd/ft2). For this design
was are proposing to use the average application rate, which is .62 gpd/ft~.
2. TRENCH DESIGN:

We are proposing to install a diverter valve (Bull Run type) so that flow can be periodically
alternated between the old and the new trenches.
4. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic
upgrade.
5. TOPOGRAPHY: See the 1" = 200' site plan for topography information. The lot is
generally flat from north to south and slopes gently downhill (< 5%) from east to west. In short,
there are no slope concerns.

Dear I~r. Webster,
At your request I have preformed an adequacy test on the septic system
for the 3 bedroom home located on the above referenced property.
The system consists of a 1000 gallon septic tank which was pumped and
an absorption trench. The system was tested by running ~ater directly
into the absorption trench and n~nitoring the trench and the septic
tank for backup. The system was found to absorb the required daily
look of 450 gallon within a 3 hour time period.
The well flow test was performed on the existing well in conjunction
with the adequacy test. The well depth is ~known with no well log
available, the only recorded information states that the well is over
100' deep. An attenpt was made to measure the static water level but
there was some physical restriction in the casing at, 63' which my
probe coold not pass. The well is properly cased to 63' but static
water level is onknown. The well delivered 5 gpm for 24 minutes
then had to be reduced to 2.5 gpm for' a per~od of 2 1/2 hours. The
well was found to deliver the required daily load of 450 gallons
within 3 hours ~ich meets all State and Iv~unicipal codes for a 3
bedroom home The test results have been tabulated below:
