R[CEIVED
By means of this letter we m'e requesting issuance of a Lot Line Waive]' allowing the
recently installed soil absorption trench upgrade on Lot 11, Block 5, Greenland S/D, to be within 2
feet of the north property line which abuts a 20 foot wide alley. As can be seen from the site plan
submitted in conjunction with the permit application, all of the adjoining lots also have septic
systems nero' to this alley, and the presence of the alley will ensure adequate sepm'ation without the
necessity of the no]xnally required 10 foot setback from property lines.
The installation was made in this location in order to minimize the need to cut trees on the
subject lot.
Please give me a call if you have any questions on this waiver request.
Sincerely,
Ted Moore, P.E.

Dem' Sirs:
The purpose of this letter is to provide the required design narrative in support of our application for a
permit to construct wastewater disposal facilities oil Lot 11, Block 5, Gmeifland S/D, located at 4721
Jumar Road. The present soil absorption system is no longer able to absorb water at an adequate rate for
the residents living in the house, and thus must be pumped frequently. Soils logs, perc test results, a site
plan, design drawings and specifications are enclosed for your review.
The proposed system will be constructed in the vicinity of test hole # 1. As can be seen from the soil
log, the native material between 5.75' and 18' below ground level is a silty sand with a measured perc rate
of 13 minutes per inch. Test hole #2, as well as another test hole dug throe years ago in the alley just north
of the property show similar soil chm'acteristics. Using a slightly conservative soil application rate of 0.6
gpd/sq, ft., this 4 bedroom residence requires a total absorption area of (4 x 150)/0.6 = 1000 square feet.
The proposed design consisting of 84 lineal feet of trench with 6 feet of sewer gravel beneath the
horizontal distribution pipe has a total absorption eu'ea of 1008 square feet.
The topography of the lot is variable, but generally slopes down from east to west at 0 - 5%. Since the
present system was sized for a three bedroom residence, we have verified that them appears to be
sufficient area remaining on the lot (to the southwest and the southeast of the proposed u'ench), outside of
the 100 foot protective radii of neat'by wells, to allow another replacement 4 bech'oom system to be
constructed at such time as it may be needed.
The proposed project will have no significant impact on present or futm'e water supply and wastewater
disposal systems serving adjacent propetlies, nor will it have any significant impact on reserved space-
surface and subsurface, or on drainage.
Please give me a call at 345-1355 if you have any questions on this subinittal.
Sincerely,
Ted Moore, P.E.

Specifications
1.0 General:
1.1 The scope of the project consists of abandonment of an existing 1250 gallon steel septic tank and
installation of a new 1250 gallon septic tank followed by 84 lineal feet of 12 foot deep soil absorption
trench containing a total of 6.5 feet of sewer gravel.
1.2 Construction shall be as depicted on the approved site plan and design drawings. Minor
deviations from these drawings may be allowed or requked by the engineer conducting the inspections.
All construction procedures and material specifications shall conform with Municipal and State
requirements. All separation distances shall be in confmxnance with Municipal requkements, unless
specifically waived.
1.3 The contractor shall be responsible to obtain any necessary utility locates, and to work around any
buried utilities.
1.4 The contractor shall provide adequate cover material and rough grading over all system
components to ensure that proper di'ainage is achieved after settiement and that there are no residual
depressions. Insofar as possible the conu'actor shall rninimize damage to trees and existing lawn areas.
1.5 Unless specifically agreed otherwise, the homeowner shall be responsible for finish grading after
the soil is compacted, as well as placement of topsoil and reseeding all areas disturbed by the construction.
2.0 Septic Tank:
2.1 The existing septic tank must be properly abandoned by thoroughly pumping, removing the top
and backfilling with soil. The existing concrete ring seepage pit and soil absorption trench may be left in
place for possible later reconnection.
2.2 The new. 1250 gallon, 2 compartment septic tank shall be Municipally approved and shall be set
level on undisturbed soil. Each compartment shall be equipped with a watertight manhole cover and a 4"
cleanout. If the tank is buried less than 4 feet, it shall be insulated with 2 inches of approved burial type,
rigid insulation.
2.3 All pipe cormections to the tank shall be equipped with waterproof mechanical couplings, The

configured as shown on the design drawings to a depth of approximately 12 feet below the original ground
elevation in the vicinity of test hole #1.
3.2 The bottom of the excavation shall be level. Any compacted or smeared surfaces shall be raked to
allow proper infilU'ation.
3.3 A total of 6.5 feet of approved sewer gravel shall be placed in the bottom of the excavation with
the perforated distribution pipes laid level such that the pipe inverts are no less than 6.0 feet above the
bottom of the sewer gravel. Sewer gravel shall be 0.5" - 2.5" screened gravel, with less than 3% passing
the #200 sieve.
3.4 Monitor tubes and cleanout pipes shall be of 4" diameter and installed in the locations shown on
the design drawings. The portion of the monitor tube extending through the sewer gravel shall be
perforated.
3.5 Approved filter fabric shall be placed over the entke top surface of the sewer gravel prior to
backfill with unclassified material.
3.6 The top surface of the cover material shall be raised a minimum of 12 inches higher than the
surrounding terrain to allow for subsequent settlement, and shall be graded to smooth contours. Fill
slopes shall be no steeper than 3:1.
3.7 Unless specifically agreed otherwise the homeowner shall be responsible for arranging to have the
site finish graded after the backfill material has stabilized, and for placement of adequate topsoil and seed
to promote rapid revegetation of all areas disturbed by the consu'uction.
4.0 Inspections:
4.1 A total of 4 engineering inspections will be required dm'ing the course of the project: (1) initial
stakeout with the contractor to establish the location of the system and to discuss the plans, specifications
and construction procedures, (2) after the native material has been excavated to expose the infiltrative
surface to ensure that it is level and at the right elevation, and conforms with the soil test information, (3)
after the sewer gravel is in place and the distribution pipes have been laid and connected up to the septic
tank, but prior to placement of filter fabric, and (4) after rough backfill and grading is complete. The
septic tank requires one inspection after it is set level and the piping connected, but prior to backfill. This
inspection may be incorporated with any of the above inspections.
4.2 The installer shall coordinate the timing of the inspections with the engineer sufficiently fa' in
advance to ensure the availability of the engineer.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin:
At the request of Christie Vincent, your real estate agent, the
writer has observed the well and septic system on the referenced property.
A flow rate test was performed on the septic system with the results
presented on Sheet 1 attached. A sample of water was collected at the
kitchen faucet and delivered to the State Laboratory for testing with
copies of the test results to be mailed to you and to the Municipality.
You were requested to have your septic tank pumped and obtain a receipt
to present with this report to the Municipality. This report presents
the writer's observations, the test data, and the writer's interpretation
of the test data.
Relative Locations of Well and Septic Systems
The writer has prepared a sketch showing the relative locations of the
well, house, and septic system, presented on Sheet 2 attached. This
sketch was prepared from the "on-site sewage disposal system inspection
report" dated June 23, 1972 by the G.A.A.B. and supplemented with field
measurements. The soil absorption system is 100' or more from the well.
The septic tank is 93.5± feet from the well. Soil absorption systems on
adjacent lots appear to be 100' or more from the well, however the stand
pipe for what appears to be the septic tank on the lot adjacent to the
east is 95' from 'the well. Wells on adjacent lots appear to be 100' or
more from the septic system.
Well
The well is located in the driveway. The casing extends 10" above ground.
The top of the casing has a sanitary seal. The area around the casing is
paved and shaped to drain.

be appropriate to test the system.
Flow Rate Test Results and Interpretation
Before beginning the test, the water level in both the septic tank and
seepage pit was measured from the top of the respective vents. Water
was then entered into the system through the septic tank vent at 10 gpm,
to try to ascertain the surge capacity of the system, then progressively
less rates until the system experienced relatively small water level rises
during pumping intervals. Measurements were taken at approximately lO0-
gallon increments. 510 gallons were pumped into the system. The system
~i$__use during the test with three residents in the house.
The levels in both the septic tank and pit rose rapidly at a pump rate of
10 gpm until at 300 gallons, the level in the pit was at ground surface
elevation but still contained in the vent. Pumping was stopped for 15
minutes. The level in th~.~__~pJze~.~LT" in less than.~J~_i~[~t~e_~..an~
remained at that level for 10 minutes. The flow rate was decreased to
4.5 gpm. After 90 gallons were pumped, the level in both the ~!t and the
tank rose 5 inches. Pumping was stopped ~5~-~h-6--~-~tem returned to the

reduced to 2.86 gpm. After 100 gallons were pumped, the level in the
system rose about 2 inches. Twenty minutes after the pumping was stopped,
the water level returned to the level to which the system returned
after surging. Fourteen hours later the levels in the system dropped an~/--

The writer concludes that presently the system has a failure surge capacity
of less than 300 gallons, and a flow rate of less than 2.86 gpm. For a
three-bedroom house generating 450 gpd and assuming this occurs in eight
hours, the average flow rate would be 0.94 gpm. If a peak factor of 6
is applied, the peak flow rate would be 5.6 gpm and failure would occur
in approximately 1½ hours. Failure is defined for the purposes of this
report as when the water level in the seepage pit reaches ground surface
level. Because the system did not return to the original level 40 hours
after pumping, there is a potential for progressive reduction in the capacity
of the system during heavy use; and the possi_jz~l~ha~~em m~
not accept long-term loading of 450jpd. Tests by private enterprise to

justified in view of the cost of system improvement.
